BCS Rankings: Teams That Will Fall the Farthest
Who knows what a computer will give out as the best 25 teams in college football, but its fun to speculate. This past weekend was full of upsets and crazy finishes.
These three teams really messed up their chances of playing in a big bowl game. They will unquestionably slide the farthest down the polls when they are released on Sunday night.
Texas
Texas (No. 16) has been overrated all season long and Missouri proved it on Saturday. Five points is all the Longhorns scored…five points.
Missouri is allowing an average of 21 points per game and Texas achieved five. Disgraceful.
It was the first time since 2004 that Texas didn’t get into the end zone at least once.
It was domination by the defense of the Tigers. They allowed only 247 yards of total offense while holding quarterback David Ash to 13-of-29 passing.
I don’t care which college football team you play, if you score five points you will not win one football game all season. That gives Texas three losses.
Last week’s three-loss teams were barely in the Top 25. I have Texas at No. 23.
Stanford
Stanford (No. 4) isn’t as good as last year’s team. I’ve been saying it all year long that it was overrated and Saturday night’s 53-30 demolishing at the hands of Oregon finally showcased it.
Which team has Stanford beaten? Washington is decent and so is USC, but no other team has been of quality.
Oregon went into Stanford Stadium and ran the ball for 232 yards and three touchdowns. They also forced five Cardinal turnovers. Stanford looked slow and confused on defense.
Stanford doesn’t deserve to be in the top 10. Not with a performance like that.
They were out-coached, outplayed and outmuscled on the trenches. Stanford is known for being a pro-style, two tight-end offense that can wear defenses down.
Similar to last season’s 52-31 loss, Oregon just took it to them from start to finish. Stanford will be at No. 10.
Boise State
The Broncos (No. 5) blew it.
For the second year in a row, the Broncos' inability to perform chip-shot field goals will keep them out of the BCS title game. TCU went to Idaho and put the dagger in the hearts of Broncos fans.
Boise State never gets sympathy from voters or computers, so expect a free-fall by losing to an unranked BCS team at home.
There is no excuse to lose on your home field against an inferior opponent.
The Broncos allowed 473 yards passing from sophomore Casey Pachall—unacceptable. He had five touchdowns on the day including the game-winning touchdown and two point conversion.
Not only did Boise State get bounced from BCS conversation two years in a row, but it also lost millions of dollars.
Boise State will be at No. 12.
