BCS Rankings: 5 Teams Who Will Slide Tonight

William PenfieldNov 13, 2011

After a crazy day in college football, that saw two of the nations remaining unbeaten teams fall, the BCS rankings are likely to be shaken up when they are released later tonight.

Title dreams were dashed, and new hope was given to teams that were once thought to be out of it.

We saw six different ranked teams fall on Saturday including No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 Boise State.

Later tonight, the BCS Top 10 is likely to get its biggest shake up of the season, and with more marquee matchups in the coming weeks, it's only going to crazier.

No. 4 Stanford Cardinal

1 of 5

In what could have been a launching pad to a BCS championship game berth, the Stanford Cardinal got embarrassed in Palo Alto by LaMichael James and the Oregon Ducks.

For the second straight year, Stanford's only loss will come at the hands of the Ducks—a team that they can't seem to keep up with.

The loss will result in the Cardinal falling from the No. 4 spot to potentially out of the top 10.

Projected BCS ranking: No. 8

No. 5 Boise State Broncos

2 of 5

For the second straight season, the Boise State Broncos have a letdown game that will keep them from going undefeated.

Last season, it was Nevada, and this season it's TCU who beat them by going for two and converting after scoring the game-tying touchdown with less than a minute left on the clock.

The loss will save BCS voters the criticism of not putting an undefeated Boise State team in the national championship game and could possibly see the Broncos joining the Stanford Cardinal outside the top 10.

Projected BCS ranking: No. 9

No. 12 Penn State Nittany Lions

3 of 5

After all that happened this week in State College, the football team took the field without Joe Paterno and lost to Nebraska, 17-14.

The Nittany Lions were on a drive to tie or take the lead when the Cornhuskers stopped them short on a 4th-and-1 conversion.

Not that football is all that important in the grand scheme of things in Happy Valley currently, but the Nittany Lions should see a four or five-spot drop when the BCS rankings are revealed tonight.

Projected BCS ranking: No. 18

No. 16 Texas Longhorns

4 of 5

After creeping up to the No. 16 spot in the rankings with a subpar team, the Texas Longhorns should slide significantly when the new BCS rankings are revealed later tonight.

The Longhorns have lost all three games they have played against formidable opponents including yesterday's loss to Missouri.

With shaky quarterback play and injuries at the running back position, the Longhorns were never able to get it going offensively and failed to score a touchdown.

If it were up to me, the Longhorns would be out of the top 25 all together as they are definitely not one of the nation's top 25 teams, but they will probably find themselves in the 20s when the rankings are revealed.

Projected BCS ranking: No. 21

No. 20 Auburn Tigers

5 of 5

The Auburn Tigers have been a mediocre team all season which was apparent on Saturday as they got blown out by the Georgia Bulldogs.

Cam Newton, Nick Fairley and company leaving for the NFL has just proven to be too much for the Tigers to recover from.

With the loss, the Tigers are likely to fall from the rankings when they are released later tonight and should stay there for the remainder of the season.

Projected BCS ranking: Not ranked
