Penn State vs. Nebraska: Big Ten Conference Showdown Drawing Massive Interest
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-2) and Penn State Nittany Lions (8-1) are scheduled to play a football game inside Beaver Stadium Saturday in University Park, PA.
Everyone knows that long-time head coach Joe Paterno will not be on the sidelines for the first time in 46 seasons, as he was fired due to the ongoing scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky that has rocked the campus.
The week-long media coverage of these happenings has caused this particular Big Ten Conference football game to receive the most action in Las Vegas—nearly doubling what's been received for the Pac-12 Conference primetime event between the Oregon Ducks and Stanford Cardinal.
From a sports fan perspective, I don't believe a game should be played this afternoon, as the allegations surrounding these events should be the focus.
Nebraska has also expressed concern about the protection of its coaches and players, as nobody knows what to expect inside the venue.
Saturday's game was supposed to feature two teams that are still alive in the conference race, with Penn State holding a 7-6 all-time advantage in the series, including a 5-1 mark on its home field.
Both programs are two of the giants in college football, combining for 1,670 victories, as both rank among the Top 6 in career wins.
Often times, sports is a healing process, but I'm siding with members of the public that believe an extracurricular activity on campus should be canceled Saturday.
Last night's candlelight vigil for the victims was a step in the right direction for the student body.
It's an impossible situation to handicap—one that I want no part of.
