TCU vs. Boise State Football: Forget About a TCU Upset, It'll Never Happen

Johnathan CaceNov 8, 2011

Since 2006, Boise State has been one of the most polarizing teams in college football. While some people say the Broncos don’t deserve a chance to play with the “big boys” of college football because they don’t play in an automatic-qualifying conference, others cite their winning record against some of the toughest opponents and their continued dominance of the league they’re in.

Last year the Boise bus got turned over following a devastating loss to Nevada but it looks like the team is on pace to have an undefeated season. The biggest test comes this weekend against TCU but that shouldn’t be much of a test.

The Broncos are one of the best teams in the country when they are playing in Idaho and that is exactly where this game will be played.

But more importantly is the lack of experience on the TCU roster.

The team that ranked first in the nation in defense last year now is 38th in the country in yards allowed per game. Without that staggeringly good defense, there’s no way TCU wins or even goes to the Rose Bowl last year or makes a trip to the Fiesta Bowl in 2009.

Additionally, their offense may be putting up 41 points per game but the Horned Frogs have yet to play anyone with a really good defense, especially on the road. The best defensive team they’ve played away from home has been San Diego State and they scored their lowest point total all season against the Aztecs.

Boise went to Atlanta and put up 35 points on a Georgia team that now ranks seventh in the country in yards allowed. They have not scored fewer than 30 points all season, have held every opponent to 26 or fewer points and won every game by a minimum of 11 points.

Have the Broncos played a murderers' row of teams? Of course not, but they always show up for big games no matter where they are being played. Having it in Boise will certainly help their cause.

And while the games between these two schools have been extremely close in recent years, this is an entirely different TCU team than the one we are accustomed to seeing.

There’s no way the Horned Frogs beat the Broncos on Saturday.
