Joe Paterno Press Conference: Cancellation a Sign Joe Paterno Is Finished

The weekly Joe Paterno press conference has been cancelled for today, and that could mean the famous head coach could soon be done at Penn State. 

The only explanation for the cancellation was given out on a piece of paper.

"Due to the ongoing legal circumstances centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that today's press conference cannot be held and will not be re-scheduled."

That seems like a pretty clear-cut reason for cancelling a pres conference, but something seems a little fishy. 

Coming in to the press conference, it was made clear that no questions about the Jerry Sandusky scandal or on-going investigation were going to be allowed. If they were asked, they weren't going to be answered.

Simple as that. 

It was purely football questions and Nebraska questions that were going to be answered. So why exactly was it cancelled?

There surely must have been something else going that we didn't know about. And now, we know what that something is.

According to the New York Times, Penn State is planning Joe Paterno's exit.

"The board of trustees has yet to determine the precise timing of Paterno’s exit, but it is clear that the man who has more victories than any other coach at college football’s top level and who made Penn State a prestigious national brand will not survive to coach another season. Discussions about how to manage his departure have begun, according to the two people."

So that's it. The cancellation of the press conference first appeared to be because of legality issues, but now we know it's because Joe Paterno likely won't be around college football next season.

This is a huge development, but it's not surprising after this horrific scandal hit the news waves.

It's unfortunate that Joe Paterno, possibly one of the most influential men in college football history, will have his career come to end like this, but it might just be necessary.
