BCS Standings: Boise State Does Not Belong in the Top 10

Brian MaziqueNov 6, 2011

Boise State doesn't pass the eyeball test, and their schedule does not measure up to those of any of the other teams in the top 10.

On Saturday, we watched the Broncos struggle against UNLV; is that the type of team that deserves to be in the hunt for a national championship?

I hear the people say, "Well, its not where the teams are ranked in Week 10, it's where they are at the end of the season."

Well then, why do we make such a big production out of the unveiling of the standings every Sunday night?

The Broncos have not played anybody other than Georgia, who at the time were an embryo of what they've become, which is one of the hottest teams in the country. I would love to see those two teams play a rematch right now. It would be a massacre—the Bulldogs would hammer the Broncos.

It is possible I'm being too hard on Boise State, but it is their own fault. Sure, they are in an inferior conference, which pre-designates their conference schedule to teams that have no positive effect on their schedule strength.

That said, the Broncos could have scheduled a more difficult non-conference schedule than one that features Georgia, Toledo, Fresno St., Tulsa and Nevada.

I know the schedules are determined a few years in advance, but when has that combination of teams equaled a schedule strong enough to contend for a national championship?

Boise State schedule-makers plotted to run the table with little to no resistance, hoping to capitalize on stronger teams picking each other off. That way, they could sneak into a BCS bowl game or, worst of all, the title game itself.

Boise State is a sham and shouldn't be ranked in the top 10 of the BCS, let alone the top 5.
