LSU vs. Alabama Highlights: Video of the Game of the Century's Big Plays

T.J. McaloonNov 6, 2011

Did y'all make it out alive after last night's LSU/Alabama "Game of the Century" showdown? The game did live up to all of it's hype, as it had the high drama, key turnovers, excellent chess match play between it's head coaches and missed field goals.

Oh my goodness, could you imagine what it's like to be the Alabama kicker Cade Foster today?

Here's a fun game, is there a worst school to miss all of those field goals for in such a huge game? Like would the kicker for Notre Dame have to hide his face like Foster will have to around the Alabama campus?

But, there were some amazing plays last night. Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit last night's LSU/Alabama classic game.

Cade Foster and the Missed Field Goals

1 of 5

Not only did he miss one field goal, or two but three field goals, in the biggest game of the Crimson Tide's biggest game of year is inexcusable. Yes, all of the kicks were over 40 yards, but when you are kicking at a program, that is as close to a professional football team in Alabama, you are expected to be able to hit those field goals.

The team as a whole missed four field goals, leaving 12 points on the field.

Eric Ried Saves LSU's Season

2 of 5

If LSU's safety Eric Reid does not make this play, Alabama has the ball on the two yard line with an excellent chance of putting the ball into the end zone.

If Eric Reid does not make this play, it's a 13-6 game in the fourth quarter, with a terrible LSU offense that could not do anything in the game.

The interception was a game saving, season saving and possibly title saving play. Heck that play could have made Reid millions of dollars in the NFL Draft in April.

Trent Richardson Trying to Win the Game by Himself

3 of 5

You can point the finger at a lot of players and personnel for the blame after last night's game. But one person that you cannot place the blame on is running back Trent Richardson.

Trent did not have the big game that he is accustomed to, as he rushed 23 times for 89 yards and had a team high 80 yards receiving on five catches.

As you can see in this clip, the LSU defense had a tough time bringing down Richardson, when he was in the open field.

Jorden Jefferson Clutch Completion Before the End of the First Half

4 of 5

Both LSU and Alabama's quarterbacks did not tear up the other's defense last night. But, each one of them had clutch throws that put their team into a great position to score crucial points.

As the case here where before the end of the first half, LSU's Jordan Jefferson launched a pass deep down field into coverage. As you can hear CBS's Verne Lundquist thought the pass was intercepted.

Instead it flew past the Alabama safety's hands and into the waiting arms of LSU's Russell Shepard.

The completion set up LSU's first points, as they kicked a tying field goal to end the first half.

LSU's Drew Alleman Kicks the Game Winning Field Goal

5 of 5

The field goal from Drew Alleman is the highlight of the video, but the entire video above gives a great look into how Alabama did nothing on their third down and the missed field goal—followed by LSU's almost game-winning touchdown, but instead had to kick the game winning field goal.

Plus there are great crowd shots of the Alabama faithful in tears, the LSU fans in celebration and a great quote from LSU's head coach Les Miles, that said he'd love to see Alabama in a National Championship game.

This game was a defensive struggle that had high stakes on every single drive. If these two teams would meet up again in the National Championship game, it would be just as high drama, with LSU hosting the Crimson Tide this time around.
