10 Fast-Starters Who Are Starting to Fade

While the newest campaigns of the football season continue to click on, there have been some standout performers from both the individual and club level.

However, many of those that were tearing it up have now seen their results come to a screeching halt. Although goals in the beginning of the season can make you feel good, without consistency during the continued games, a great start can only take you so far.

For those in the latter category, it is all a matter of work ethic, skill, time and luck. However, there is no doubt that many of those that came out of the gate on top may have more left in the tank. But, they will have to do some serious form searching and physical training in order to put in some great performances to get their full form back.

Matt Jarvis

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis had a blistering start to his 2011-12 season in the EPL.

Jarvis was picked last season as a player almost guaranteed to move on to a bigger club during the summer transfer window. However, he remained at Molineux under manager Mic McCarthy hoping to keep Wolves on the up and up.

He did just that as his play produced one goal and one assist personally, and was key to Wolverhampton's seven-point start in the month of August.

Now it appears that as Jarvis has cooled, his club has done just the same as Jarvis is yet to earn another assist or score another goal.

Real Betis

Real Betis rocketed out of the gate in La Liga taking the league by the storm with 12 points heading into the fifth week.

However, they have failed to win a match since and only managed their first draw this past weekend against Malaga.

In their last seven games, they have scored one goal in comparison with their first four games of the season when they scored nine.

Leon Best

Leon Best came out of the blocks for Newcastle United, leading the line very effectively as he scored three goals and created on assists in his first six games.

However, since week five of the EPL, he has only created one assist with no goals. Granted, the majority of the goals are now coming from Demba Ba, Best needs to reassert himself to make sure the Magpies have an attacking front line that will stand up to the test of this season. Not to mention, keep them in the top five.

Derby County

The Derby County Rams looked like they just might be back to their 1970s selves as they had a great first eight games to the season with six wins and two losses. Their season-opening form saw them to 18 points in the Npower Championship table.

However, they have played another eight games since then that have seen them slump to only one win, three draws and a disappointing four losses, dropping them to eighth place in the table.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney started the season on fire for Manchester United as he rushed to nine league goals after only six weeks.

However, since he was served his UEFA European Championship suspension, he is yet to score a goal in the league and has looked a little out of sorts at times.

He needs to regain his focus in the league and keep pushing.

Stoke City

Stoke City started the season well by earning draws against both Chelsea and Manchester United at home while also defeating Liverpool at home in between the previous results. All in all, the Potters started their season with two wins, three draws and only one loss, and gave them hope for a solid top eight performance or better.

Their last five games have seen them achieve only one win while suffering some tough losses, including a 5-0 pounding at the hands of bottom-feeding Bolton Wanderers this past weekend.

Tony Pulis' side has been suffering from their UEFA Europa Cup hangover's as well as poor attacking form over the last month and a half.

Feyenoord Rotterdam

Dutch Eredivisie side, Feyenoord Rotterdam started the season on a six-game unbeaten run with four wins and two draws. Since then, their form and results have been rather frustrating to themselves and their fans.

In the six games since, they have managed only one win, one draw in their rivalry match against Ajax Amsterdam and four losses, dropping them to eighth in the table.

Franco Di Santo

Wigan Athletic striker Franco Di Santo started the season well for his club with three goals in the first five games. Despite the Latic's poor form, Di Santo looked like he could be their savior during a poor spell of play from Hugo Rodallega.

However, during his last five appearances for the club, Di Santo has been none existent in many ways with only a handful of decent shots after what had looked like a promising start to the 2010-11 campaign.

Nani

Much like his counterpart, Wayne Rooney, Manchester United's Portuguese winger, Nani, has had a frustrating last five games for the Red Devils. His open start to the campaign saw him contribute three goals and as many assists.

In the last five Premier League matches, Nani has failed to make his mark in either category and needs to reassert himself into the equation for his club to start building upon their attacking form. Their scoring average has dropped from just over four goals per game in their opening five matches to only averaging one goal per game since.

Rodrigo Palacio

Genoa forward Rodrigo Palacio looked in fine form at the start of the season. However, he has shown a dip in his production as of late.

The 29-year-old attacker scored five goals and assisted on three more in his first five games. Since then, he has only managed one assist from four games and has been held largely in check by defenses.

Palacio was not allowed even a sniff at goal during the AS Roma and Juventus games, which hampered Genoa's attacking strategy.
