Oklahoma vs Texas A&M: Sooners and Aggies Halftime Analysis
At the half, the Oklahoma Sooners hold a slim 13-10 lead over the Texas A&M Aggies. It looks like another sluggish performance by Landry Jones and the Sooners.
Is it a matter of Texas A&M playing great defense or are the Sooners having a bad offensive game? The answer is probably somewhere in between, but Oklahoma is clearly not the same team on offense without their walk-on running back Dominique Whaley.
The wind is playing a big part in the offensive struggles, especially in the case of Landry Jones who has looked pretty bad throwing the ball. But when the wind is causing problems, you have to be able to count on your running game. Roy Finch just isn't able to carry the load that Whaley could.
What's gone wrong for OU
The bottom line is that the Sooners offense has been a non-factor. The Oklahoma offense is considered one of the top units in all of college football, yet they continue to have problems in the red zone, and trouble completing passes had led to just 13 points for Oklahoma in the first half.
Landry Jones appears to be uncomfortable with the wind and has been off his game thus far. Drops by Ryan Broyles and Kenny Stills have done nothing to help the cause.
What's gone right for OU
The defense has looked like the dominant defense from last week against Kansas State. One busted coverage has led to the only touchdown for the Aggies.
The key to the game coming in was for the Sooners to stop the Texas A&M run game. Through one half the Aggies have just 52 yards on the ground.
What to expect in the second half
Look for offensive coordinator Josh Heupel to open up the playbook a little on offense. If Jones is able to improve on his 10-for-26 passing performance, the Sooners should be able to take control of the game. If not, it could be back-to-back home losses for the Sooners.
