The Whole Effein' Show: Minnesota Needs A Change; Start at The Stop

Nicholas HostDec 12, 2008

The Minnesota Timberwolves need to be re-assembled.

The holes of productivity and effectiveness are as wide as the Grand Canyon. The team lacks leadership, continuity, and coaching. This is not something one or two transactions can fix. As most of you remember this is clearly due to the monumental mistakes of the two individuals most at fault of this franchise- Kevin McHale and Glen Taylor.

McHale has been the picture hanging from angry Wolves fans for the past three plus years. It's time to include Glen Taylor in this, as well. The owner of the franchise has not realized that Kevin McHale wasn't able to assemble a true title contender around one of the greatest players ever to play this game in Kevin Garnett. He also approved of the illegal contract structured to Joe Smith that cost the team three first round picks and a huge hit to the teams' popularity and publicity.

On top of all those horrendous decisions were more horrendous decisions. Bad contracts to Mark Blount, Marko Jaric, and Mark Madsen are just the icing on the cake.

The drafting of William Avery, Paul Grant, Ndudi Ebi, and Corey Brewer have garnered the team 44 regular season starts. Only one start from someone other than Corey Brewer. Gross. Also, the team parlayed Ray Allen, Brandon Roy, and O.J. Mayo in Stephon Marbury, Randy Foye, and Kevin Love. Yikes.

How could a man put together such a bad combination of talent and coaching? Lets be honest with ourselves, this team could easily be a lot better than what they have shown, but they haven't been given opportunity or been given the correct talent in situational times that are crucial for victories. How often does it take for a staff to figure out who plays better with whom in given situations? Three years? Sorry, that's too long for a “professional” organization.

I have some ideas for the team to follow to ensure a more competitive output.

Get a point guard who wants to run the offense that can break down a defense and pass well.

Suggestion: Sergio Rodriguez

He has a lot of holes in his game, especially on the defensive side of the court. He wants a chance to play more and contribute to a team that isn't three-deep at a position, already. I don't think the Wolves have anything the Blazers are really interested in, but he would fit the bill.

A center who can play against the larger bodies in the NBA on defense and not be a complete offensive liability.

Suggestion: Chris Kaman

He's very up and down with his production and his work ethic has been questioned by his coaches and teammates alike, but he's a very good rebounder and his a low-post presence. He would be a dreaded counterpart to Al Jefferson and Kevin Love.
