Florida Football Recruiting 2012: 7 Recruits That Could Give Gators No. 1 Class
I've been saying for months now, a prime candidate to make a home stretch surge for the No. 1 class is Florida. The Gators already sit inside the top five right now, with their current commits, but are still in good position for more primetime recruits.
I'm going to give you seven recruits that I think could help for the guys in Gainesville to be the No.1 recruiting class.
Let's talk some Gator recruiting!
7. Tracy Howard
1 of 7Howard has been looking at Florida for quite some time now. In fact, his interest is high in the Gators, and I think if NSD was tomorrow, he'd sign with UF.
Yet, he's also looking at LSU, Alabama, Miami, Auburn, USC and a few others. He will take trips to West Virginia and LSU soon.
UF will get their turn likely after the season, but if they steady the ship, they will be in the thick of the race until the end.
6. Jordan Jenkins, DE/OLB
2 of 7We discussed Jenkins during the Alabama part of this series a few days ago. Many have his race down to 'Bama and Florida.
The leader almost changes depending how Jenkins feels, and other programs like Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee are still on him very hard.
Jenkins will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the Alabama vs. LSU game, so if things go well Alabama could be hard to beat.
5. Nelson Agholor, ATH
3 of 7Agholor's recruitment has been as open as anyone's in the country. He really never lists a leader or leaders and just always side steps a lot of specific questions.
Schools like Florida, USC, Notre Dame, Florida State, Texas, Vanderbilt, LSU, Auburn and Georgia have been mentioned. He did take an official trip to Notre Dame on October 7th, but I think four more trips will come.
Florida should be in it until the end with him, due to the class their building, being in-state and playing in the SEC.
4. Noah Spence, DE
4 of 7Spence is viewed by most as the top pure pass rusher in the country and has a ton of offers. Florida is one of them and he has gone on record with Scout.com as to say he likes the potential fit in the UF defense.
He has a good relationship with Dan Quinn and Will Muschamp. However, Florida is just one in his top seven of USC, Penn State, Notre Dame, Maryland, UNC and NC State.
Florida is going to have to work hard to land him, but getting Spence would be a huge coup for the Gators.
3. Avery Young, OT
5 of 7Young is one of the best OTs in the country, as the 6'6", 285-pounder is a very athletic trench player with a high ceiling. Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, Georgia and Virginia Tech are schools he mentions.
In fact, Auburn leads right now and Young is visiting Alabama this weekend. He has family ties to Georgia, and Florida has always had his eye.
So you see that this thing could go any way and UF has as good a chance as anyone. There is some quiet chatter that it's actually down to Florida vs. Georgia. Stay tuned.
2. Stefon Diggs, WR/ATH
6 of 7Diggs is another player whose recruitment has been open. From Auburn to Maryland to Florida to Cal to Miami to Florida State to South Carolina and more, Diggs has a slew of offers.
He's going to take a visit to Cal first, but Diggs also tells Scout.com that he will be at The Swamp on November 26th for the FSU game.
Michigan, VaTech and Virginia are other schools to watch out for. Yet, Diggs has Florida ties and the Gators look good. Watch out.
1. Keith Marshall, RB
7 of 7Marshall has to be the top prospect right now for Florida. Charlie Weis is recruiting him very hard and Marshall gave his trip to Gainesville a few weeks ago a "9.9 out 10."
That's big time.
With his 4.3 speed and great home run hitting ability, the Gators are selling Marshall on early playing time and SEC play, plus a close(er) proximity to home. Notre Dame, Georgia and Virginia Tech are other schools in the race, but I just keep going back to Marshall's quote about his trip.
