LSU vs. Alabama: Star Power Will Ignite Crimson Tide to Victory

Ryan RudnanskyNov 3, 2011

On both sides of the ball, No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama are the two best teams in college football.

While the BCS rankings are constantly debated, there should be no debate about this.

That's why the two powerhouses' matchup on Saturday will prove to be the game of the year.

When analyzing who will come out on top, the two teams are so close that the difference should be, well, which stars make the biggest difference on the field.

On offense, LSU sports a star receiver in Rueben Randle, a solid running back in Spencer Ware and an effective quarterback in Jarrett Lee. Alabama features a star running back in Trent Richardson, a solid receiver in Marquis Maze and an effective quarterback in A.J. McCarron.

As for defense, LSU is giving up 11.5 points per game this season, while Alabama is allowing 6.9 points per game, best in the nation. LSU is led by cornerback Morris Claiborne, while Alabama sports linebacker Courtney Upshaw and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick.

In the end, the Tigers and Crimson Tide are matched up so well on both sides of the ball that I expect this to be a game determined by the game changers.

In that regard, I think Richardson is the biggest game-changer on the field offensively, and I expect him to break off some runs that will turn the tide.

And while LSU has an elite defense, I still consider Alabama's to be the very best in the country. Allowing 6.9 points per game in the SEC is simply a joke.

You add in the fact that the Crimson Tide have home-field advantage and the better head coach in Nick Saban, and I believe they will be the No. 1 team in the country by the end of Week 10.

But one thing's for sure: This game is going to go down to the wire, and it will be a joy to watch.
