College Football Picks Against the Spread: November Teams to Keep an Eye on

Jeff GrantNov 2, 2011

The college football regular season is entering its stretch run before bowl invitations are handed out, serving as motivation or lack thereof for programs across the nation.

It's also a time that certain coaching staffs really get into a groove or start falling behind.

Let's take a closer look at seven teams that may have you running to or away from the sports book in November.

Ohio State Buckeyes

1 of 7

The Ohio State Buckeyes have rattled off two consecutive wins against opponents that were ranked when they took them on, including a 33-29 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers as 7.5-point home underdogs.

Former head coach Jim Tressel really had the program peaking in November, posting a 9-2 ATS (against-the-spread) record during the month since the beginning of the 2007 season.

It will be interesting to see if interim coach Luke Fickell can close out the year in style.

Virginia Tech Hokies

2 of 7

The Virginia Tech Hokies are known for peaking at the right time and are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 November games, including a 3-1 ATS mark last year.

Head coach Frank Beamer has this week off, but don't fall asleep on this program when traveling to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 11.

Arkansas Razorbacks

3 of 7

Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bobby Petrino likely rides around listening to Wyclef Jean's "Gone Till November" due to his .778 winning percentage during the month.

The Razorbacks will put their 13-3 ATS record in November on the line this week when hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks as five-point home favorites.

South Carolina's 2-8 ATS record in the last 10 meetings may keep the party going.

Boise State Broncos

4 of 7

Laying 41 points on the road is a tough venture for bettors, but the Boise State Broncos aren't your ordinary team against the spread.

The program has covered 11 of its last 15 games in November, while posting a 21-5 ATS mark away from Broncos Stadium.

A showdown with the TCU Horned Frogs is on the horizon, a program that is 10-4 ATS during the current calendar month.

Something will have to give next Saturday.

Michigan Wolverines

5 of 7

The Michigan Wolverines have already bucked a lot of negative trends during Brady Hoke's first year in Ann Arbor, which has me backing the team on Saturday.

It's still important to note that the Maize and Blue are 2-12 ATS in November, but the Iowa Hawkeyes aren't much better, at 4-9 ATS in the same situation.

Fans are ready to erase any memory of Rich Rodriguez with a strong finish to the 2011 campaign.

LSU Tigers

6 of 7

Before emptying your bank account on playing the No. 1 team in the nation as an underdog on Saturday, take into account the LSU Tigers being 4-12 ATS in November tilts.

I'm fading the boys from the Bayou in Saturday's Southeastern Conference showdown.

Houston Cougars

7 of 7

Oddsmakers are going to juice the betting odds against the Houston Cougars in their final four regular-season games, especially after Heisman Trophy candidate Case Keenum threw for nine touchdowns in last week's 73-34 win over the Rice Owls.

Bettors will likely profit in facing the Cougars due to their 4-11 ATS mark in November.
