World Record Header Is Scored by Ryujiro Ueda

Hasmat MustunNov 1, 2011

The world record in football for a header used to be 57 yards from Jon Samuelsen, but that record was broken Sunday between Yokohama FC and Fagiano Okayama.

This was an incredible goal that left the opposing goalkeeper baffled and humiliated. The coach was astonished and the expression on his face was one of complete shock.

Ryujiro Ueda Sets New World Record for a Header in a Football Match

1 of 1

Yokohama FC goalkeeper Kentro Seki launches the ball upfield, deep into the opposition's half.

But Seki did not know that something incredible was about to happen. Fagiano Okayama's lanky defender Ryujiro Ueda clears the ball with a powerful header back towards the opposing goal.

Everything seems to be normal until Seki completely misjudges the bounce of the ball and watches it bounce over him and into the net.

It was a baffling moment for the opposing coach, the fans and the goalscorer himself, who could not believe it when he was on the score sheet for his clearing header.

At 58 yards, the header was a world record-setting strike. Take a bow Ryujiro Ueda!
