BCS Rankings: LSU vs. Alabama Will Not Have Biggest Impact on Standings
The game between Alabama and LSU will be the biggest game of the week, but the game does not have the biggest impact on their team’s BCS chances.
The ‘Bama and LSU game has the most hype heading into the game this week. It’s being talked about the most in every college football circle. And, the winner of the game will be in the driver’s seat in the BCS Standings.
But, the loser of that game will only drop to No. 5 or No. 6, with a great chance to at least make a BCS bowl game, most likely the AllState Sugar Bowl.
However, the loser of the following games will have their BCS chances crushed in the first week of November.
Texas A&M at No. 6 Oklahoma 3:30 p.m.
Before the Aggies collapse last week, this game was starting to build as two of the best teams in the Big 12 playing each other, with the winner having still an outside chance of winning the Big 12.
But, after another second half collapse to Texas A&M, their third this year, they limp into this game with the Sooners as an unranked team.
On paper this looks like an easy win for Oklahoma. But, two weeks ago, the Sooners were upset at home to an unranked, and lesser talented, Texas Tech. If the Sooners sleep walk through the first half of this game, like they did against Texas Tech, they will get upset for a second time at home, thus ending any BCS chance they had.
No. 9 South Carolina at No. 7 Arkansas 7:15 p.m.
This is the runner up for the game of the week. If the teams weren’t in the SEC or playing on the same week as Alabama and LSU, this game would be getting the most publicity for the conference.
Both teams have been playing great this year, however, a loss for either team will almost end any hope that they had for a BCS bowl berth.
A win for Arkansas and a win for LSU, set’s up for an epic game for the SEC West division championship on Nov. 25. A win for South Carolina, keeps the Gamecocks in first place in the SEC East, as they hold off the charging Georgia Bulldogs for another week.
No. 14 Kansas State at No. 3 Oklahoma State 8:00 p.m.
This game may not get the viewers it deserves, as they go on the same time as ‘Bama and LSU. But, a loss for Oklahoma State crushes their dreams of playing in their first BCS Championship game. A loss for Kansas State puts a stake in the heart of their season, killing any chance of a BCS bowl game.
Oklahoma State needs a win in this game so that there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Oklahoma State is the best team, after LSU and Alabama.
So, for all of you that will be watching that game in Alabama on Saturday night, there are three games that have a bigger impact on the BCS Standings, if the favorites lose.
