BCS Rankings Week 10: 3 Teams Outside Top 5 That Have Shot at National Title

Austin GreenOct 30, 2011

The newest BCS rankings were just released and three teams currently ranked outside the top five have legitimate shots at appearing in the national title game.

Despite their blemished records, if these teams win out, they could be playing in the BCS Championship Game come January.

No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners avenged their Week 8 loss to Texas Tech by spanking a solid Kansas State 58-17.

After throwing two early interceptions, quarterback Landry Jones was phenomenal. He threw for 505 yards and five touchdowns in the game.

For the season, Jones is second in the nation in passing yards (3,094) and second in passing touchdowns (26).

Oklahoma has four regular season games left, including their season finale at No. 3 Oklahoma State.

If they impress in their remaining games, the Sooners could be playing for the BCS championship.

No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks

The Razorbacks were unimpressive the last two weeks, but still managed to win both games.

Arkansas is now 7-1 (3-1 in SEC) and their only loss is to No. 2 Alabama. They have two wins over ranked teams, taking down then-14th ranked Texas A&M and then-15th ranked Auburn in consecutive weeks.

Next week they face No. 9 South Carolina, which is another opportunity to boost their BCS resume.

The Razorbacks are a long-shot to appear in the national title game, but they will have a perfect opportunity to state their case in the last game of the regular season. If they can somehow upset No. 1 LSU in the season finale, Arkansas will definitely be in the championship discussion.

No. 8 Oregon Ducks

After their season-opening loss to top-ranked LSU, Oregon has been mowing down teams. Since that loss, they've won every game by at least 14 points.

The Ducks have one more marquee game on their schedule, a matchup with No. 4 Stanford on Nov. 12.

If they take down the Cardinal, Oregon will have a very solid national title argument.
