BCS Standings Week 10: Complete Standings, Twitter Reaction and More
If there's one thing we already know about the BCS standings for Week 10, it's that LSU and Alabama are going to remain on top. The fact that both were idle in Week 9 does not change the fact that they are the two best teams in the country.
Beyond that, all bets are off. All sorts of madness happened in Week 9, and we're going to see all this madness reflected in the new BCS standings.
If you're the type of person who plans his Sunday night around the revelation of the new BCS rankings, you're going to want to keep it here. We're going to discuss the rankings from every possible angle, and we'll also have a little fun digging around for good tweets on the Twitterverse.
If that sounds good to you, just check back here periodically for updates.
Update: Sunday at 9:10 p.m. ET
Now that we have the Week 10 BCS standings (below), why don't we go ahead and hit the Twitterverse for some reaction?
First things first: just who the heck is Southern Mississippi and what are they doing in the BCS Top 25?
Good question. I guess all you really need to know is that the Golden Eagles are currently in first place in Conference-USA, and that they have dispatched such mighty foes as Rice, Navy, and SMU.
That being said, this fan's reaction is pretty typical:
I can't disagree. I'm typically not one to step all over teams from small-time conferences, but Southern Mississippi definitely came out of nowhere. It's going to be interesting to see if the Golden Eagles can stick around.
Speaking of schools from small-time conferences, there's some slight outrage over Boise State at the moment. This is typically the case, but the hate for Boise is that much stronger tonight because BCS Countdown featured a journalist who thinks Boise State should be No. 1.
This fan doesn't want to hear it:
Nor does Bleacher Report's Andrew Kulha, who doesn't think the Broncos would hold up very well against one of the other top teams:
This is another thing I'm inclined to agree with. The Broncos are a great football team, but I think they were a better team in 2010. I don't think they're going to lose this season, but they really have no business playing for the title.
Speaking of national title contenders, how about 2010 runner-up Oregon dropping down to No. 8 to make room for Arkansas? This tweet just about says it all:
In case people are wondering, things like this happen because the BCS computers don't care how teams win games. They only care that teams win. I've always assumed this is because style points are surprisingly difficult to calculate.
Then again, at least one fan thinks it's outrageous that Oklahoma is at No. 6:
This "garbage team," for the record, would be Texas Tech, which dropped out of the Top 25 after losing to Iowa State. By this definition, all teams outside the Top 25 should be considered garbage. Go, tell the people.
In any case, you probably get the idea. Wherever there are BCS standings, there is griping, and Twitter is a great place to gripe.
In all honesty, though, this is a pretty light week for griping. Pete Thamel of The New York Times can point out why:
In case you're wondering, next week is when we finally get No. 1 LSU at No. 2 Alabama.
Provided that game doesn't blow up the world, you can rest assured that there's going to be a lot of madness a week from today.

You're also going to see Kansas State fall out of the Top 10 after its loss to Oklahoma, which might just leave the door open for Nebraska to jump into the Top 10.
We shall find out soon enough.
