BCS Rankings: Say Goodbye to These 5 Teams in Week 10

Dan VastaOct 30, 2011

The third week of the BCS rankings are upon us, and we have learned that the dominoes will continue to fall. A few more teams will soon drop out of the top 10, and that includes next weekend.

There a couple of games on the slate where we should see a few of the top-ranked teams fall, but I would be wary of a few heavyweights to get upset.

No. 13 Michigan at Iowa: Noon ET, ESPN

1 of 5

The Wolverines will come into this game as the favorites and their defense has proven to let us down when they need them the most. Michigan's Denard Robinson must be able to carry this team on his back unless Fitzgerald Toussaint goes off again.

The Hawkeyes' defense ranks just 76th in total yards allowed, which is not a good side if they expect to pull off the upset.

Though the game is at Noon ET (11 a.m. CT) the crowd will still be a legit factor.

Iowa's crowd usually gets up at 5 a.m. for these types of games and expect the Hawkeyes to rise to the occasion on defense to come away with the upset.

No. 1 LSU at No. 2 Alabama: 8 p.m. ET, CBS

2 of 5

No offense to the loser of this Game of the Century, but they will probably not get their chance at the National Championship.

I am simply not buying the fact that we will see these teams get a rematch. Oklahoma State, Stanford/Oregon and Boise State will all have their chances to play for all the marbles.

Make no mistake, these are the best teams in America (for now) and they should put on a performance next weekend, but the loser will be at a disadvantage.

No. 10 South Carolina at No. 8 Arkansas: 7:15 p.m. ET, ESPN

3 of 5

The Razorbacks at home should give South Carolina a true test between both of these top 10 teams.

The Gamecocks control their own destiny in the SEC East, but Georgia is right on their tails.

If Arkansas comes away with the victory their BCS aspirations would still be alive. Both of these teams should be New Year Day locks to play the day after Jan. 1, but the winner could perhaps crack the top six since they will be favored in all of their games (Arkansas travels to LSU in the season finale, though).

I would bank on South Carolina finally tripping up here with Georgia destined to play in Atlanta against the SEC West winner.

No. 3 Stanford at Oregon State: 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC

4 of 5

Teams do not have a good track record coming off three overtime games, and though I am not banking on the Cardinal to lose one, expect a close game in Corvallis.

The Beavers are prone to upsetting top 10 teams in the nation. Stanford was taken to the limits against a legit USC squad, so I really wonder if the Cardinal will come out flat.

The Cardinals will be arguably favored in every single game. They will also have a Heisman and, more importantly, a BCS National Championship on the line.

Can they live up to the high expectations, or will they be the next to fall?

No. 19 Kansas State at No. 4 Oklahoma State: 8:00 p.m. ET, ABC

5 of 5

The Cowboys are coming off an obliteration over Baylor, and they need to continue lighting up the scoreboard to remain at No. 3 in the BCS rankings.

Oklahoma State is ranked atop the computer rankings, and this would have to be considered a dangerous game with Kansas State reeling.

There is no shot the Cowboys lose at home, right?

Wrong!

This Cowboys defense continues to give up a ton of yards, but they are an opportunistic bunch that just feeds off the offense. Kansas State turned it over left and right against the Sooners, but Colin Klein has the makings to let the Pokes sweat this one out.
