Lane Kiffin and the Biggest Whiners in College Football

Joe PenkalaOct 30, 2011

After suffering an emotional and hard-fought loss to Stanford in triple overtime, Lane Kiffin made time to let loose on the officiating and how poorly he thought the game was officiated. Kiffin's main concern surrounded the last play of regulation.

This outburst brought to mind some of the various people who have followed Kiffin's lead when it comes to complaining. He isn't alone when it comes to complaining and whining during the college football season.

Here is a look at five of the main offenders in college football.

Non-SEC Fans

1 of 5

The SEC is the most polarizing conference in the nation. You're either a fan of one of the schools in the SEC, or you are a fan of seeing them lose.

Since the beginning of the BCS era, the SEC has stepped to the head of the class in terms of National Championship success, and that has continued to drive people crazy.

As the SEC continues to have more and more success, more people will continue to whine and complain about the SEC and try to discredit its schools as much as possible.

Mike Stoops

2 of 5

Before getting fired, Mike Stoops may have been the biggest sideline whiner in the nation. If you have ever watched a game Stoops has coached, it was a frequent site to see him come unglued on the sideline and put his entire focus on the officiating crew.

This season was by far the worst for Stoops, as his Wildcats went up against a rough schedule and could not find a way to win any of their big games. This ultimately led to him being fired.

Michigan Fans

3 of 5

This slide could easily read "Notre Dame fans," but Michigan fans are so used to winning that these past few years have shown what the fanbase can truly be capable of when it comes to whining.

Michigan fans have adopted a feeling that beating them while they are down means nothing, and they will lean on their past successes to defend any argument.

It does not matter when Michigan beats their opponents. Whether it's a good year or a bad year, beating a bad Michigan team holds no weight in their eyes.

Boise State

4 of 5

Every year Boise State goes through the same routine: win one big game at the start of the year, then go against weak opponents the rest of the way.

What makes this worse is the belief that this sort of schedule should be rewarded with a title shot.

With all the conference realignment that is going on around the country, Boise State has an opportunity to join a more established and accomplished conference but so far has chosen not to.

Until they go up against better talent week-in and week-out, Boise State will have to continue to try and whine their way into a title game.

Lane Kiffin

5 of 5

Since joining Tennessee and then moving to USC, Lane Kiffin has always been willing to whine and complain to get his point across.

While at Tennessee, Kiffin was never afraid to point the finger at other programs while at the same time committing violations of his own.

When he left Tennessee, Kiffin made sure to bring his complaints and whining ability with him to USC. and he let it all out after the loss to Stanford.

Kiffin went on and on about the poor officiating, and all but blamed the loss on the officiating crew.
