BCS Projections: Stanford Cardinal and Updated Top-5 Rankings

Justin WeltonOct 30, 2011

Watching Andrew Luck play quarterback on Saturday made you realize just how great of a player he is, if you didn’t know already. His Stanford Cardinal squad will be in the new BCS Rankings released on Sunday night. Here is how the new top-five rankings will shake up.

No. 5Stanford Cardinal

Luck is the best college football player in the nation. Not only can he sling it all around the field but also his athleticism is what really has scouts in awe. He proved that multiple times against USC on Saturday night with his 36 yards and one touchdown rushing.

Whether he’s throwing the ball all over the field, rushing for touchdowns or even making fantastic one-hand catches, Luck is the real deal and he will continue to keep the Cardinal in a great position to play in the BCS National Championship game.

No. 4Boise State

Boise State is licking their chops at the No. 4 position in the BCS Rankings. Even though their schedule continues to lack in difficulty, the teams ahead them will face serious competition in the upcoming future.

LSU and Alabama will play each other this weekend while Oklahoma State has intriguing games against Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Iowa State.

There has to be a loser with LSU-Alabama and Oklahoma State may slip up once leaving the Broncos in prime position for their first BCS National Championship game.

No. 3Oklahoma State

The Cowboys are 7-0 and, with an Oklahoma loss to Texas Tech last weekend, control their own destiny. LSU and Alabama will knock each other off leaving Oklahoma State in position for a BCS Championship opportunity.

Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon continue to prove why they have the best one-two quarterback-wide receiver combination in college football. Weeden needs to be talked about more in the Heisman race; he is averaging 373 yards passing per game, 2,710 on the season and 22 touchdowns.

Blackmon has caught 74 passes and 10 scores already.

The player not getting a lot of attention is running back Joseph Randle. All he has done in 2011 is rush for 16 touchdowns on 842 yards.

This offense continues to prove just how explosive it is, averaging 50 points per game.

No. 2Alabama

What a game Alabama-LSU will be this weekend. Both teams had byes this week allowing both to bring their best game plan to the table on Saturday.

Alabama’s defense is the best in the country, allowing seven points per game.

No. 1LSU

LSU is third defensively allowing 12 points per game. They have the best victory of any team in college football—Oregon, 40-27. They held the Ducks to 20 points and about 200 yards less than what they average.

The loser of Saturday's game (depending on how they lose) will still have an opportunity to compete for the second overall position. However, we will still see a new No. 2 come next Sunday.
