View from Kingsmeadow, Volume 58: Can't These Dons Do Anything Right?

Jo-Ryan SalazarOct 29, 2011

Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon were on a two-game losing streak when they traveled to take on Torquay United. Unfortunately, the losing streak was extended yet again.

Danny Stevens opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, while Eunan O'Kane made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute of play. Rene Howe put the game out of reach in the 45th minute to make it 3-0 Gulls. Just to add salt to the wounds, Howe made it a brace in the 56th minute.

So what were the Dons going to do heading into their next match against Shrewsbury Town? For starters, they would head into the contest without Brown at the helm, as he would be away with his family to take care of personal issues.

It was up to assistant manager Stuart Cash to pick up the pieces as the Dons stumbled into the Greenhous Meadow with their tails between their legs.

"We've already had one overnight this week at Torquay so we've decided to travel to Shrewsbury on the day of the game," Cash told reporters. "Christian Jolley is recovering well from his injury at Torquay and it looks as if it isn't as severe as we first thought, but we are looking in terms of a return for Barnet rather than Saturday. Christian is a naturally upbeat lad and it is good to see him positive after being downcast following his initial injury as he loves to play.

"Overall we are not looking to make wholesale changes as this is still a very good young team that is learning and Terry has often said that we will take some knocks and setbacks over the season. That is what we are going through now and we will deal with it."

Last season, Shrewsbury, managed by Graham Turner, finished fourth in the Football League Two but were eliminated from promotion playoffs by Torquay on aggregate 2-0.

The Shrews' balanced attack is paced by Marvin Morgan, who has seven goals in all competitions, as well as James Collins, who has five goals on the year.

However, both sides failed to produce and were forced to settle for a scoreless draw.

While the losing streak is over, the winless streak isn't. Four games on the spin without a win should be a sin for AFC Wimbledon. Rhyme intended.

Up next for the Dons is a contest with Barnet F.C. Kickoff at Kingsmeadow is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET.
