College Football Rankings: Ranking All 120 FBS Teams Heading into Week 10

Nine weeks of college football are in the books, and for the third straight week two undefeated teams picked up their first loss. This week Clemson fell to Georgia Tech, while Kansas State lost big to Oklahoma at home.

This week featured not only some big losses but also some thrilling games, including Ohio State versus Wisconsin and Stanford winning in triple overtime over USC.

Before we move on to Week 10, which features Alabama versus LSU, let's take a look at the national power rankings. 

No. 120: New Mexico

Record: 0-8

Next Game: at San Diego State

Quick Note: Things continue to get worse and worse for New Mexico, as the Lobos were shut out at home this past week and now head on the road to play San Diego State.

No. 119: Florida Atlantic

Record: 0-7

Next Game: Arkansas State

Quick Note: Florida Atlantic found a way not to lose this past week—don't play. After a bye, the Owls hope to find a way to slow the Red Wolves.

No. 118: UAB

Record: 1-7

Next Game: Houston

Quick Note: After a win over UCF, UAB got back to losing and will have its hands more than full as it takes on Houston.

No. 117: Indiana

Next Game: at Ohio State

Quick Note: Even when the offense produces, like it did against Northwestern, the defense is awful and cannot help the Hoosiers stay in games.

Quick Note: The good news for Colorado is at least it scored this week.

Next Game: Miami of Ohio

Quick Note: For Akron, the losing streak is now at four games, and it continues to struggle to close out games.

Quick Note: The Vandals have now lost six straight games, and the offense continues to struggle.

Quick Note: Kent State snapped a three-game losing streak this past week and will look to make it two wins in a row for the first time this year.

Next Game: at Eastern Michigan

Quick Note: Buffalo now has its second three-game losing streak of the year and continues to struggle on both offense and defense.

No. 111: Tulane

Record: 2-7

Quick Note: After jumping out to a 2-1 start to the year, Tulane has dropped six straight games with a tough road test upcoming against SMU.

No. 110: Memphis

Record: 2-7

Next Game: UAB

Quick Note: After a win over Tulane, Memphis came out flat against UCF and got shut out on the road.

No. 109: Oregon State

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Stanford

Quick Note: After a win last week, Oregon State came back down to reality and helped Utah earn its first conference win this past week.

No. 108: UNLV

Record: 2-5

Next Game: Boise State

Quick Note: The good news is the Rebels earned their second win of the season; the bad news is they face Boise State this week.

No. 107: Minnesota

Record: 2-6

Next Game: at Michigan State

Quick Note: Minnesota put together one of its best performances of the year and came out of its game with Iowa victorious.

No. 106: Kansas

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Iowa State

Quick Note: Kansas has lost six straight games and looks dreadful. Its defense is brutal, and the offense got shut out this past week against Texas.

No. 105: Rice

Record: 2-6

Next Game: UTEP

Quick Note: It will be very interesting to see how Rice rebounds from its last game against Houston. The Owls defense got torched and could not handle the passing game.

No. 104: Troy

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Navy

Quick Note: After an overtime loss to FIU pushed the losing streak to three games, Troy has to travel to a Navy team in desperate need of a win of its own.

No. 103: Navy

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Troy

Quick Note: Things have continued to go downhill for Navy, as it has dropped six straight and is struggling in all phases of the game.

No. 102: Middle Tennessee

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Tennessee

Quick Note: The inability to stop anyone on defense continues to haunt the Blue Raiders, as they have dropped to 2-5 and head to Knoxville for their next game.

No. 101: Maryland

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Virginia

Quick Note: Maryland's losing streak reached four games this week, and the offense did not look good at all.

No. 100: UL Monroe

Record: 2-6

Next Game: UL Lafayette

Quick Note: Throughout much of the season, UL Monroe has kept things close but has failed to close out a few games. Last week's overtime loss was another example of that.

No. 99: Boston College

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Florida State

Quick Note: Boston College finally got on the board with a conference win this past week against Maryland. Winning two straight will be tough as it takes on the Seminoles.

No. 98: Ole Miss

Record: 2-6

Next Game: at Kentucky

Quick Note: After a loss to Auburn with LSU still on the schedule, it appears that Ole Miss will not be bowl eligible this year, and Houston Nutt may be under fire.

No. 97: Utah State

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Hawaii

Quick Note: After losing two straight games, Utah State got this past week off and will need its defense to be ready when it takes on Hawaii.

No. 96: Miami (Ohio)

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Akron

Quick Note: After an 0-4 start, Miami has now won three out of four games and looks to have gotten things turned around.

No. 95: North Texas

Record: 3-6

Next Game: at Troy

Quick Note: Not a good combination for North Texas, as it is one of the worst teams in terms of scoring and also one of the worst teams in terms of points given up.

No. 94: Central Michigan

Record: 3-6

Next Game: Kent State

Quick Note: Central Michigan kept its bowl dreams alive with a one-point win over Akron but will need to win this week against Kent State to keep hopes alive.

No. 93: Northwestern

Record: 3-5

Next Game: at Nebraska

Quick Note: After a five-game losing streak set the Wildcats back, they got back on the winning track against Indiana, but they will have a tough test against Nebraska this week.

No. 92: Army

Record: 3-5

Next Game: at Air Force

Quick Note: Army laid down the hammer this past week against Fordham, but this week will be much more difficult as the Black Knights take on Air Force.

No. 91: Duke

Record: 3-5

Next Game: at Miami

Quick Note: Duke put up an outstanding effort this past week, but missed field goals and turnovers ultimately cost them in a four-point game.

No. 90: San Jose State

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Idaho

Quick Note: After a tough start to their schedule, being 3-5 at this point of the season is not bad for the Spartans as they aim to become bowl eligible.

No. 89: Kentucky

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Ole Miss

Quick Note: At 3-5, Kentucky still has the ability to become bowl eligible, as it has games against Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Georgia remaining.

No. 88: Colorado State

Record: 3-5

Next Game: San Diego State

Quick Note: For the fourth straight time, Colorado State lost, but it will get a bye week to try to figure things out for its game against San Diego State.

No. 87: Arizona

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Utah

Quick Note: Arizona is just hoping for this season to be over. This past week the Wildcats fell to the Washington Huskies and now face Utah, which just earned its first conference win.

No. 86: Louisiana Tech

Record: 4-4

Next Game: at Fresno State

Quick Note: After a rough start to the year, Louisiana Tech has pulled off three straight wins, and it is coming up on a huge game against Fresno State.

No. 85: Fresno State

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Louisiana Tech

Quick Note: Pat Hill and Fresno State did not envision their season going this poorly, and they are in danger of not getting into a bowl game.

No. 84: East Carolina

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Southern Miss

Quick Note: East Carolina continues to pick up speed and has now won three straight, but it will truly be tested by Southern Miss this week.

No. 83: Connecticut

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Syracuse

Quick Note: With two conference losses, the defending Big East champs are in danger of being out of the race.

No. 82: UCF

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Tulsa

Quick Note: UCF's two-game losing streak came to an end in a big way, as it shut out Memphis 41-0 and still has a bowl game in its sights.

No. 81: Washington State

Record: 3-5

Next Game: at Cal

Quick Note: Washington State almost caught Oregon sleepwalking this week but got in its own way too many times. If the Cougars hope to become bowl eligible, they must beat Cal this coming week.

No. 80: Western Kentucky

Record: 4-4

Next Game: FIU

Quick Note: After an 0-4 start, Western Kentucky has fully rebounded to 4-4 and now can truly start to focus on getting into a bowl game.

No. 79: Marshall

Record: 4-5

Next Game: at Tulsa

Quick Note: The inconsistent offense of Marshall continued this week, but it was on track as it beat UAB 59-14. It will need that sort of performance against Tulsa.

No. 78: Air Force

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Army

Quick Note: Air Force snapped its three-game losing streak this week by delivering a beatdown to New Mexico and was able to get back on track for its game against Army.

No. 77: Bowling Green

Record: 4-5

Next Game: Northern Illinois

Quick Note: After surprising Temple, Bowling Green fell short to Kent State and will struggle to keep up with Northern Illinois.

No. 76: New Mexico State

Record: 3-5

Next Game: at Georgia

Quick Note: After getting to 3-3, New Mexico State has dropped two straight games and will likely make it three when it heads to Georgia.

No. 75: Tennessee

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Middle Tennessee

Quick Note: After a great start to the year, Tennessee has seen the schedule pick up and the losses come with it.

No. 74: UCLA

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Arizona State

Quick Note: The trend of lose-win-lose-win continued this week as UCLA won. The win means that the Bruins are due for a loss as they face Arizona State.

No. 73: Utah

Record: 4-4

Quick Note: Utah finally was able to get a game in the conference win column as it took out Oregon State but will be tested against Nick Foles and Arizona on the road.

No. 72: Western Michigan

Record: 5-4

Next Game: at Toledo

Quick Note: Western Michigan snapped its losing streak by taking out Ball State to keep its bowl dreams alive.

No. 71: UTEP

Record: 4-4

Next Game: at Rice

Quick Note: While UTEP had a two-game winning streak, its offense and defense both struggled against Southern Miss and could not compete.

No. 70: Eastern Michigan

Record: 5-3

Next Game: Ball State

Quick Note: Eastern Michigan is coming off a bye week and now has a chance to stun everyone by becoming bowl eligible.

No. 69: NC State

Record: 4-4

Next Game: North Carolina

Quick Note: NC State is ready to move on from last week's beating it took from the Seminoles, and it hopes to take it out on rival North Carolina.

No. 68: Louisville

Record: 4-4

Next Game: at West Virginia

Quick Note: After a 2-4 start, the Cardinals have won two straight but will have a hard time defeating the Mountaineers on the road.

No. 67: Purdue

Record: 4-4

Next Game: at Wisconsin

Quick Note: The win-loss trend continues, but don't look for that trend to stay true, as it would call for a win against Wisconsin on the road.

No. 66: South Florida

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at Rutgers

Quick Note: After a 4-0 start and looking really strong, South Florida has dropped three straight conference games and is struggling mightily.

No. 65: Ball State

Record: 5-4

Next Game: at Eastern Michigan

Quick Note: With a chance to become bowl eligible, the Cardinals fell short against Western Michigan. Now they get a shot at Eastern Michigan.

No. 64: San Diego State

Record: 4-3

Next Game: New Mexico

Quick Note: The Aztecs defense continues to struggle, and this time it was Wyoming who took advantage. There is no reason they should not get things figured out against New Mexico.

No. 63: Cal

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Washington State

Quick Note: With games against Stanford and Arizona State at the end of their schedule, these next two are must-wins if Cal hopes to get into a bowl game this year.

No. 62: Mississippi State

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Tennessee-Martin

Quick Note: Based on how the schedule is unfolding, it looks like Mississippi State's chance to become bowl eligible will come in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss.

No. 61: Arkansas State

Record: 6-2

Next Game: at Florida Atlantic

Quick Note: After a 1-2 start, Arkansas State has ripped off five straight wins. Next up are the hapless Owls.

No. 60: Pittsburgh

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Cincinnati

Quick Note: The Panthers still only have one loss in conference, and their game against the Bearcats will be huge if they want to stay in the race for a conference title.

No. 59: FIU

Record: 5-3

Next Game: at Western Kentucky

Quick Note: With 11 days between games, the FIU Golden Panthers should be well rested for what appears to be an easy road game.

No. 58: Iowa State

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Kansas

Quick Note: This past week, Iowa State stunned people by beating Texas Tech by a wide margin. People will not be stunned by the same type of result against Kansas.

No. 57: Vanderbilt

Record: 4-4

Next Game: at Florida

Quick Note: Vanderbilt had Arkansas right where it wanted it but could not close the deal. It will be interesting to see if Vandy can bring the same effort at the Swamp.

No. 56: Wyoming

Record: 5-2

Next Game: TCU

Quick Note: After a 5-2 start, a game against TCU will help Wyoming know how far it has come.

No. 55: Miami

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Duke

Quick Note: Big win over Georgia Tech, then falling short to Virginia at home. Who knows what to expect against Duke?

Record: 5-3

Next Game: Temple

Quick Note: Ohio snapped a two-game losing streak with a big win over Akron, but a win over Temple would be even bigger.

No. 53: Tulsa

Quick Note: Tulsa earned a huge win this past week over SMU, and both sides of the ball played great. Look for much of the same against UCF.

No. 52: Iowa

Quick Note: While no one was watching, Iowa lost to Minnesota and took a serious step back. A win against Michigan would be a great way to remedy that loss.

No. 51: Hawaii

Quick Note: While the Warriors won this past week, they did not look that impressive, and the offense struggled to get on track.

No. 50: UL Lafayette

Record: 7-2

Next Game: UL Monroe

Quick Note: After a surprising loss to Western Kentucky, UL Lafayette earned its seventh win and has a shot at a 10-win season. 

No. 49: Temple

Record: 5-3

Next Game: at Ohio

Quick Note: After a letdown at Bowling Green, Temple had this past week off and will need to prepare with a better road effort if it hopes to beat Ohio this week.

No. 48: Syracuse

Record: 5-3

Next Game: at Connecticut

Quick Note: After earning a huge win over West Virginia, Syracuse laid an egg against Louisville and now must regroup for its game against Connecticut.

No. 47: Florida

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Vanderbilt

Quick Note: While Florida took care of the easy start to its schedule, the conference portion is proving to be more than it can handle, and Vanderbilt is far from a cakewalk.

No. 46: Nevada

Record: 5-3

Quick Note: After a tough start to the year, Nevada is on a roll and has won four straight games, and it now has a bye week to prepare for Hawaii.

Record: 5-3

Quick Note: After climbing to 5-1, the Mustangs have dropped two straight and are looking lost on both sides of the ball.

No. 44: Wake Forest

Quick Note: This past week's loss to North Carolina was rough, and it could get worse with a visit from the Irish this week.

Quick Note: While it was an emotional scene this past week, Rutgers came up short against West Virginia but now draws a struggling South Florida team.

Quick Note: Baylor is finding out that it is not quite there yet. With back-to-back losses to Texas A&M and Oklahoma State, Baylor has dropped out of the national eye.

No. 40: Virginia

Quick Note: Virginia is very quietly having a great season so far, and its recent road win over Miami is another notch in its belt this season.

No. 39: Toledo

Quick Note: After some early-season disappointments, the Rockets have won four straight and are looking great on the offensive side of the ball.

Quick Note: After a 6-0 start, Illinois has dropped three straight and has two weeks to get things figured out before it plays Michigan.

Quick Note: The Tar Heels snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Wake Forest and now head on the road for a rivalry game against NC State.

Quick Note: BYU was riding high on a five-game winning streak, but a double-digit loss to TCU has brought it back down to earth.

No. 35: Texas Tech

Quick Note: Just a week after beating Oklahoma on the road, Texas Tech returned home only to have its doors blown off by Iowa State.

Record: 4-4

Quick Note: Missouri has been wildly inconsistent so far this year, but after a huge win over Texas A&M, it will be interesting to see if the momentum can finally carry over for the Tigers.

No. 33: Notre Dame

Quick Note: Notre Dame bounced back nicely after a tough loss at home to USC, and the offense and defense both played great against Navy.

No. 32: Florida State

Quick Note: Over the past three weeks, Florida State's defense has only given up 32 total points, and the Seminoles are playing the way that many expected them to all year.

No. 31: Ohio State

Record: 5-3

Next Game: Indiana

Quick Note: Ohio State finally earned itself a big win as it took down Wisconsin at home this past week. The Buckeyes should not struggle with this week's opponent, Indiana.

No. 30: Texas A&M

Record: 5-3

Next Game: at Oklahoma

Quick Note: For the third time this year, Texas A&M blew a double-digit lead in the second half. Don't expect Oklahoma to spot it that lead.

No. 29: USC

Record: 6-2

Next Game: at Colorado

Quick Note: After suffering a hard loss to Stanford in triple overtime, USC should have no issues taking care of Colorado.

No. 28: Washington

Record: 6-2

Next Game: Oregon

Quick Note: Washington took care of Arizona this past week and now has a huge game against Oregon this week.

No. 27: TCU

Record: 6-2

Quick Note: Since losing to SMU at home, TCU has responded with three straight wins and should make it four against Wyoming.

Quick Note: It will be interesting to see how Georgia Tech plays against the Hokies after taking down Clemson.

Quick Note: After a bye week, Texas came out like a team prepared and took care of Kansas 43-0.

Quick Note: While the Tigers have remained competitive this year, they still do not have a big win. A win over Georgia on the road would give them that.

Quick Note: Southern Miss continues to roll through Conference USA and appears to be on a collision course with Houston.

No. 22: West Virginia

Quick Note: West Virginia rebounded from its loss to Syracuse with a win over Rutgers. It returns home this week for another conference game against Louisville.

No. 21: Wisconsin

Record: 6-2

Next Game: Purdue

Quick Note: In back-to-back weeks, Wisconsin has lost in the final seconds of the game, and it has to be frustrated. You have to feel bad for Purdue this week.

No. 20: Cincinnati

Quick Note: Cincinnati earned a huge conference win over South Florida this past week and will now have to bring that same effort on the road against Pitt.

No. 19: Arizona State

Record: 6-2

Quick Note: After losing to Oregon, ASU got back to winning as it took out Colorado and now has a road game against UCLA.

No. 18: Michigan

Record: 7-1

Next Game: at Iowa

Quick Note: Time to learn what Michigan is all about this year. Its next four games are at Iowa and Illinois and home against Nebraska and Ohio State.

Quick Note: The dream season came to an end as Oklahoma put up 58 on the Wildcats this past week. Things don't look to be getting better anytime soon as they face Oklahoma State this week.

Quick Note: Georgia just continues to win, this time over Florida. The Bulldogs should make it seven straight against New Mexico State.

No. 15: Michigan State

Quick Note: The Spartans finally ran out of gas this past week after defeating Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin. They must regroup and get focused on Minnesota.

Quick Note: After earning win No. 409, Joe Paterno has two weeks to try to figure out how to get win No. 410.

Record: 8-0

Quick Note: Last week was a record-setting performance by Case Keenum as he broke the all-time touchdown record. It will be interesting to see what he does for an encore.

Quick Note: It was not a pretty win over Duke, but the Hokies earned their eighth win of the season and must play better when they head to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech.

Quick Note: The surprising part of this year has been the Gamecocks defense, as it has only allowed two teams to score over 21 points. They will need it this week more than ever, as the offense is sputtering.

Quick Note: Nebraska is coming off a huge division win and should have an easy time with Northwestern at home.

Quick Note: Arkansas flirted with disaster as it dropped behind early to Vanderbilt but managed to pull out a victory and move to 7-1.

Quick Note: A week after losing its first game of the year, Oklahoma ended Kansas State's undefeated season and looks to take advantage of a Texas A&M team that has to be questioning itself again.

Quick Note: Clemson fell from the ranks of the undefeated this week and will have to make sure it lets that loss go and focuses on Wake Forest this week.

No. 6: Oregon

Quick Note: It was clear that this past week Oregon was looking past the Cougars but got away with it. The Ducks will need to have their full attention on the Huskies this week, especially on the road.

Quick Note: Boise State had this past week off, and sure enough, two more undefeated teams lost, helping the Broncos get a step closer to the title game.
