BCS Rankings: South Carolina and Teams That Will Struggle to Hold Their Rankings
We're only two weeks into the official BCS. With that, there is a lot that can change in the coming weeks.
There are a lot of reasons that a team's ranking can decrease. In some cases, it's because they lose. In other cases, the teams below them will just be given more chances to prove their value.
When the regular season is over, these teams will all do well to be ranked where they are currently at.
Boise State (No. 4)
The Broncos currently sit ahead of Clemson, Stanford and Kansas State. All teams undefeated and in BCS conferences. Boise State simply doesn't have an opportunity left for a big win, and all of those other teams do.
In addition to that, there is a fleet of one-loss teams that can do a lot to impress the polls in the remaining games.
Boise State is going to have to not only run the table, but it will need to dominate. Even if that happens, some luck will need to go its way. Its place in a BCS game isn't really in question, as long as it runs the table.
But the Broncos' chances at remaining at No. 4 in the country are not terribly great.
South Carolina (No. 13)
The Gamecocks have struggled this year, but have only lost one game. Still, the loss of quarterback Stephen Garcia and running back Marcus Lattimore will give South Carolina a tough road for the rest of the SEC schedule, and then Clemson at the end.
South Carolina's schedule is just too tough where they play two ranked teams. In addition to that, they will do well to win the other games.
Nebraska (No. 14)
Nebraska did not do well against Wisconsin. They have allowed a lot of points this season. With three ranked opponents on the schedule from here on out, they will do well to drop only one game from this point on.
It's hard to see the Cornhuskers doing too well for the rest of the season. They allow far too many points for when they play tougher games. Another beating similar to the one they took against Wisconsin is quite likely.
