BCS Rankings: Nebraska and Teams Who Are Destined for Disaster in Week 9
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are doomed this week when they meet the Michigan State Spartans.
Nebraska relies strictly on running the ball to win football games, a strategy that won't work once the Cornhuskers fall behind against the Spartans.
Michigan State boasts one of the best run defenses in college football, as it concedes just 2.83 yards per carry. Just ask Michigan how good Sparty's defense can be at times. Michigan's offense was punished by the Spartans defense, something that is bound to happen to Nebraska this week.
The Spartans are giving up just 13 points per game this year, and have only given up 102 first downs this year through 10 games.
This isn't going to be fun for the Cornhuskers, who welcome a far superior team to town for this one. Considering that Wisconsin manhandled Nebraska earlier in the season, while Michigan State is coming off a victory over the Badgers, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind who is going to win this game.
Watch out, Nebraska, you're in for a long game.
Kansas State
It's time for the Wildcats to falter.
The Oklahoma Sooners are coming to town in what has become a must-win game for the Sooners after losing last week.
Oklahoma played poorly, but Landry Jones will not allow his team to show up flat again this week.
Kansas State simply doesn't have the passing attack to get by the Sooners. Oklahoma only conceded 120 yards rushing to Texas Tech last week, but was lit up through the air by Seth Doege for 441 yards and four touchdowns.
The Wildcats are only putting up 140 yards passing per game; that's not going to cut it against the Sooners.
Oklahoma has a high-octane offense that will register over 500 yards per game, something that KSU has no chance of matching.
The storybook run for Kansas State will finally end this weekend.
West Virginia
What in the world has gotten into the Mountaineers?
WVU was once considered one of the best teams in the country, and a team that looked as if it was going to put up a fight against LSU. That didn't happen, and now West Virginia is coming off a disastrous loss to Syracuse.
If WVU thought Syracuse was a tough loss, wait until the Mountaineers are dominated by Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have been extremely effective in shutting down the pass this season, as opponents have only completed 104 passes on them this year.
Rutgers has yet to drop a game at home this year, while the Mountaineers are just 1-1 on the road.
To make matter worse for WVU, Rutgers leads the nation in takeaways with 25.
With West Virginia failing to run the ball this year—the team has reached just 100 yards once in its last five games—it's going to be a long day.
The Scarlet Knights will create plenty of turnover in this game, which will carry them to an impressive home victory over the Mountaineers.
