LSU vs. Alabama: 5 Bold Predictions for the Game of the Century

Johnathan CaceOct 25, 2011

LSU will travel to Tuscaloosa in two weeks to take on Alabama in a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the BCS Standings.

It may be a ways away but the college football world is already abuzz with the game because of how well each team has played. They are both undefeated and the lowest margin of victory by either team has been 13 points.

To further stir the pot, here are five early predictions for how the game will go.

There Won’t Be More Than 30 Total Points

1 of 5

Both of these defenses are miles ahead of the offenses. Alabama’s Trent Richardson is easily the best player on that side of the ball but running backs can’t do everything by themselves, they need help from their offensive lines.

Both of teams’ defenses are full of NFL talent, upwards of a dozen future first or second round picks, so don’t expect these running backs to get very far or put up many points.

Les Miles Will Do Something Crazy

2 of 5

Miles has earned himself the nickname of “The Mad Hatter” after calling some crazy plays. In a game like this, expect him to try and pull off something bizarre.

In a game this close, one big play could be the difference between winning and losing and if the right time presents itself, Miles will take a gamble.

The First Quarter Will Be Sloppy

3 of 5

There is so much hype heading into this game already that the players will be the most amped up they’ve ever been in their lives. This is going to cause some jittery players to jump on the line and some extra jawing at the beginning of the game.

Hopefully everyone will settle down enough to play some tough, hard-nosed football later in the game.

There Will Be a Defensive or Special Teams Touchdown

4 of 5

Both starting quarterbacks have played really well so far this season but neither have faced defenses like what they will see on November 5th. The defenses are going to be ball hawks on third and long situations, especially if Tyrann Mathieu plays.

Both teams’ special teams are pretty good, too. Morris Claiborne has a kickoff return for a touchdown and Marquis Maze has a punt return for a touchdown.

Sometime during this game the defense or special teams will score.

Alabama Wins

5 of 5

LSU has played in some tough places this year but they have never played away from home in an environment as raucous as Tuscaloosa will be that Saturday. Bryant-Denny holds over 100,000 fans and they will be screaming with everything they have to will their team to victory.

Ultimately, Trent Richardson gets a big play and Alabama’s defense makes a stop at the end of the game to finish off this great game.
