Liverpool Transfer Talk: Gary Cahill and 5 Players Reds Should Target in January
January is approaching and Liverpool will look to flex their financial muscles yet again to improve the calibre of their squad.
The Reds have been solid and unspectacular so far this season with a 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur severely blotting their copy book.
The recent draw at home to Norwich coupled with the fact that Newcastle United and Tottenham are performing out of their skins at the moment may well prompt John Henry to spend this winter.
Here are five players Liverpool should target in January. Enjoy the slide show!
Gary Cahill
1 of 5Liverpool have a brilliant attack, a world class goalkeeper and a midfield packed full of talent.
Their defence is the weak link however and Kenny Dalglish needs to address this. Gary Cahill would serve as an ideal replacement for Jamie Carragher this January.
He'd also be relatively cheap considering his contract is up in the summer, so every pound paid for this England international would be worth it.
Seyi Ojo
2 of 5Seyi Ojo has very recently been linked to Liverpool amongst others.
He is in fact a 14-year-old midfielder playing for MK Dons and the England U-16's. Chelsea are thought to have already bid for the player but Liverpool remain in contention.
Owing to his age, the general public do not know a lot about how good he is. But he is young, British and promising—ticking all the boxes for John Henry and Damien Comolli.
Adam Johnson
3 of 5Adam Johnson is facing a difficult time at Manchester City.
He is a quality player who is rated very highly by most in football. Fabio Capello rates him and he has earned a few caps for the England senior side but he can't get a consistent run of games in the City side.
Things aren't going to get any easier for him either with Manchester City strongly linked to Alessio Cerci in January, the electric Fiorentina winger.
City could make a tidy profit on Johnson and barely miss him. Liverpool have been linked for some time now with a move for the young English winger.
Matt Lecointe
4 of 5Liverpool have been linked to another young starlet, this time in the form of Matt Lecointe.
Lecointe is a 16-year-old striker who plays for the deeply troubled Plymouth Argyle. He has been elevated to the first team as a result of the coastal club's struggles and scored his first professional goal not long ago.
He certainly looks promising and is renowned as a hard worker. He wouldn't command a high fee due to Plymouth being in administration and is well worth a bid as there's a chance he could be a real talent.
Samuel Inkoom
5 of 5Ghanaian full-back Samuel Inkoom claims he is close to completing a move to Liverpool.
He told a radio station that his agent is in talks with the Reds after being scouted, but he was unsure if the move would be permanent for around €5 million or on a loan basis.
He currently plays for Ukrainian club Dnipro and may be remembered for playing well for Ghana in the 2010 World Cup. He would add great depth to the fullback position at Anfield for a relatively cheap fee considering the climate.
