BCS Rankings: Oklahoma Sooners and One-Loss Teams Whose Title Dreams Aren't Dead
Last week was a nightmare situation for teams like Wisconsin and Oklahoma. They had their national championship dreams all but crushed, with two bad games between both teams.
One team lost in a crushing fashion, on a last-second play to another one-loss team in Michigan State. The other team fell behind early and could not keep up with a good offense from Texas Tech.
But fear not, one-loss teams. Your season is not over. Here are three teams that have as good of a shot as the undefeated teams that currently occupy the top spots in the BCS standings.
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma had everything laid out in front of them. They were the first team behind No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama in the BCS standings. With ‘Bama and LSU both having to play each other in two weeks, Oklahoma was primed to move into that No. 2 spot that either Alabama would vacate or move out of.
Now, their road to the BCS title game is a bit bumpier, with their shocking upset loss at home to Texas Tech.
What’s good for Oklahoma is that they still have games against No. 7 Kansas State, No. 16 Texas A&M and No. 3 Oklahoma State left on their schedule. If the Sooners can win all three of those games it will shoot them back up the BCS standings.
Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State has been one of the hottest teams in the college football landscape. They started the season in the middle of the polls, but fell off the rankings after a loss to Notre Dame.
But, after two straight wins against ranked opponents at home, the Spartans have risen from the ashes to start this week at No. 11 in the BCS standings. This week, the Spartans have a road test, as they travel to Nebraska to face the No. 14 Cornhuskers.
After this game, the Spartans do not have a game against a ranked opponent, as they will have to rely on teams ahead of them to lose a game or two.
Oregon Ducks
Oregon has been playing like an undefeated team since they suffered their season-opening loss to No. 1 LSU.
For the Ducks they have a win against No. 18 Arizona State and have a gigantic matchup against No. 6 Stanford in three weeks.
After that game, if the Ducks are able to beat the Cardinal on the road, they will have to get past USC and more than likely Arizona State in the Pac-12 Conference Championship game.
Now, all three of these teams cannot make it to the BCS National Championship game, but all three of these teams have as good of a shot to get to New Orleans on Jan. 9th, as the teams who are currently undefeated.
