John Terry: Putting Things in Perspective

I accept that TheChelseaBlog is often a little cynical, and there’s plenty of criticism where it’s considered to be due, but that’s not to say it’s always doom and gloom. Just to prove it, I’ll throw in a bit of praise here and there, which brings me to the subject of this article.

You see, I was having a look around the official site and came across a story about some servicemen from the Headley Court rehabilitation centre visiting Cobham. I think one of the reasons this stood out for me was John Terry’s involvement.

Like I said, I’m fairly quick to criticise and the Chelsea Captain has often been the subject of my rants for one reason or another. However, on this occasion, his close involvement with the Help the Heroes campaign, and his thoughts after the day at Cobham with them this week, deserve quite the opposite.

Terry, who’s previously visited the recovering soldiers, says “It’s something I’ve seen—that the guys fight for us as a country and it really opened my eyes. I respected them before, but seeing what they have been through, young guys with no legs, no arms, because they have been to war, is frightening to see.  Them putting their life on the line for our country is unbelievable. It puts things in perspective. Some of them don’t get good pay offs, the insurance isn’t good for them so they’re not going to have money for the rest of their lives and that is a terrible thing, so I hope to raise awareness of that. If they do get injured, they need to be looked after because these are people fighting for our lives and future generations. They need to be put up there with the top people because they are our heroes.”

Spot on.
