BCS Rankings Week 9: Bold Predictions for the BCS Top 25 Teams

Randy ChambersOct 24, 2011

What a week. Week 8 finally had some upsets in the top of the rankings. Things have finally shaken up and things in college football have just now gotten really interesting.

I know most of us are just getting over a week of college football that included upsets, controversy and dramatic finishes, but it's time to look toward Week 9. Like in weeks past, Week 9 includes several marquee matchups and intriguing storylines.

Here are a few bold predictions for some of the teams in the BCS Top 25.

Arkansas Will Be Held Under 30 Points Again

1 of 5

The Arkansas Razorbacks have had one of the most explosive offenses in the country but played a very ugly game against Ole Miss last weekend. The problem for them is they travel to Vanderbilt to take on a underrated Commodores defense.

On the season Vanderbilt has 52 tackles for a loss and leads the entire SEC with 15 interceptions. It is giving up only 21 points per contest and forced four turnovers against South Carolina.

Vanderbilt struggles to score, so it won't end up winning the game. But the defense should be able to keep them in it till around the fourth quarter and hold the Razorbacks under 30 points for the second time in a row and third time this season.

Tennessee Will Knock off South Carolina

2 of 5

Tennessee has had its fair share of struggles this year, losing three in a row and four of its last five. But this week could be just what the doctor ordered:

A banged-up South Carolina team, playing a young quarterback and missing Heisman candidate Marcus Lattimore.

The Volunteers are a very young team that struggles to score points but they can play defense. They should be able to force Connor Shaw into a few mistakes and take advantage of them. Especially at home.

Tennessee was tied at six at halftime against Alabama last week. If the Vols can play half as good as they did last week, they should have no problem in this game.

Baylor Bears Will Upset the Oklahoma State Cowboys

3 of 5

Oklahoma State has continued to move up in the rankings with impressive wins and teams above them losing. But the past couple of weeks, the Cowboys haven't been that impressive as they struggled with an overrated Texas team and made things interesting against Missouri.

Most teams can't keep up with Oklahoma State as far as points go, but the Baylor Bears can. These teams are very similar as they score a ton of points but play little to no defense.

Baylor has had a week off to prepare for this game and they have the X-factor in quarterback Robert Griffin.

I'll take the Bears in a upset.

There Will Be 1,000 Total Yards Combined in Clemson-Georgia Tech Game

4 of 5

Here is a matchup where two of the top ACC teams square off, and although the Yellow Jackets have struggled lately, it should be a great game. I hope you like offense because there should be a lot of it in this game.

Clemson averages 40 points per game and 482 yards a game, while Georgia Tech averages 38 points per game and 478 yards.

The playmakers don't stop in this game, from Tajh Boyd, Andre Ellington, Sammy Watkins, Tevin Washington, Orwin Smith and Stephen Hill.

You may criticize the competition in the ACC this season but this game should be fun to watch.

Houston Will Drop at Least 65 Points on Rice

5 of 5

Houston is one of those quiet teams in the BCS that is slowly climbing up the rankings. Many people may not know much about them but they score a lot of points.

That doesn't look good for a Rice defense that gives up 32 points per contest. It has given up over 30 points four teams this season, including Southern Mississippi and Tulsa.

Quarterback Case Keenum and company have been licking their chops since the victory over Marshall last week.

This one will get ugly.
