BCS Rankings: Stanford and 3 Teams with Most to Gain in Week 9

Wes ODonnellOct 24, 2011

"Judgement Day" is coming in college football—but not for another week.

Nov. 5 is set to change the entire college football landscape in one fell swoop.

No. 2 Alabama hosts No. 1 LSU. Texas A&M visits Oklahoma. South Carolina visits Arkansas. Texas Tech visits Texas. Oregon visits Washington. Kansas State visits Oklahoma State.

This last game between the Wildcats and Cowboys means so much more if the two can stay unbeaten through this weekend. That won't be easy, though, as Kansas State will host the Sooners while Oklahoma State welcomes the Baylor Bears.

Should the Wildcats pull off the win, it'll put things in a whole new perspective.

Here are three teams with the most to gain in Week 9.

Stanford (No. 6)

The Cardinal still have more to prove even after their 44-point drubbing of Washington.

This is the last "difficult" road game on Stanford's schedule. If the Cardinal can defeat the USC Trojans this week in the Coliseum, they'll travel to Corvallis, Ore. before returning to The Farm for their final three games.

USC is coming off a solid 14-point win over the rival Irish in South Bend.

Stanford still has to play the Irish, so punishing the Trojans on the road before beating up the Irish at home is a must for the Cardinal's BCS Championship Game hopes.

Kansas State (No. 8)

The Wildcats are set to run the ridiculous Big 12 gauntlet starting this week. In the next four weeks alone they will take on Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas.

The surprisingly unbeaten Wildcats, however, control their own destiny and that is all a team can ever ask for.

This week they'll host recently upset Sooners. Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder knows this team has a chance to do something special.

If the Wildcats can somehow pull off this win and head into Stillwater next week against the Cowboys undefeated, it could change everything in the Big 12.

Michigan State (No. 11)

The Spartans' Hail Mary win over previously unbeaten Wisconsin keeps them in the driver's seat for the Big Ten title.

This week they travel to Lincoln to take on a Nebraska team the computers fancy.

A win over the Cornhuskers will not only add more legitimacy to their win over Wisconsin, but it puts them one game closer to a Big Ten Championship Game berth.
