BCS Rankings: 3 Teams That Will Remain Stuck in BCS Limbo
With the fresh set of BCS rankings released for Week 9, every team is weighing its chances and wondering where they would land if they won out. For the top teams, it's easy. For everybody else, it remains a guessing game.
With that in mind, here are three teams that will remain in BCS limbo moving forward.
No. 4 Boise State Broncos
While Boise State should be happy they are ranked fourth, the Broncos have to be concerned about how far behind the Top Three they remain. LSU and Alabama have run away from the field, with Oklahoma State alone in the second tier, leaving Boise to lead the third tier of teams.
The Broncos don't have any ranked teams left on their schedule to provide a quick boost, which is a major concern. Even if there is only one other undefeated team remaining when the dust settles, it's hard to imagine the BCS rewarding Boise's weak slate.
No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks
Last week, Arkansas was the top-ranked one-loss team at No. 9. After a myriad of upsets in Week 8, the Razorbacks actually dropped one spot and watched Oregon leapfrog them. They are now the third-ranked team with a loss with several others chasing from behind.
Arkansas still has games with South Carolina and LSU, but would probably need to win both in order to shake the SEC standings up enough to qualify for the conference championship game. There are just too many moving parts to consider the Razorbacks legitimate BCS threats right now.
No. 17 Houston Cougars
The forgotten undefeated team, Houston won't play a ranked foe all regular season, which makes it unlikely they'll build a strong enough case to warrant BCS consideration. That said, they did move up two spots this week and should continue to post blowout victories for the voters to consider.
The Cougars led the nation in passing yards (442) and points (49) per game and have one of the nation's most underrated players in Case Keenum. All Houston can do is win its final six games, including the Conference USA Championship Game, and hope for the best. It probably won't be enough, though.
