BCS Rankings: LSU Tigers and the Top 3 Teams Heading into Week 9

No. 3: Clemson Tigers (8-0, 5-0 ACC)

Although there is close to no chance that the Clemson Tigers make a jump to the Top 3 after Week 8 (based on the way the BCS point system works), these Tigers are arguably one of the three best teams in the nation.

With the exception of a down-to-the-wire game against the Maryland Terrapins in a tough, conference game on the road, the Tigers have dominated their competition and already feature three wins over the Top 25. The three wins include victories over No. 11 teams in Florida State and Virginia Tech.

To go along with their three wins against teams in the Top 25, one must also consider just how well this team has dominated their opponents. A five-point win over an FSU team was the slimmest margin of victory the team has had all season. They've averaging a winning margin of 15.6 points per game.

When it comes down to it, the Tigers are one of the more dynamic offenses in the nation and have the ability to outscore every team in college football.

No. 2: LSU Tigers (8-0, 5-0 SEC)

Yes, the No. 1 team in the nation for the majority of the season is not the legitimate best team in college football.

To their credit, they are without question a top two team in the country. Five wins over Top 25 opponents and a win over one of the nation's better teams in Oregon to open the season are certainly facts that solidify these Tigers as arguably the nation's best.

No. 1: Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC)

Without a doubt, despite the story the current rankings tell, there is no question that the Alabama Crimson Tide are the No. 1 team in the nation.

For one, the team allows a nation-best 6.9 points per contest, a mark that has the Crimson Tide as the No. 1 defense in college football. Three dominant wins over Florida, Arkansas and Penn State early in the season show that this team is legit.

The team has given up just 13 points in the last three weeks, talk about some defense. Both LSU and Alabama will meet next week in what will arguably be the best game this year.

Alabama should come up on top when it's all said and done.
