BCS Rankings: Clemson Tigers and More Teams Worthy of Top-5 Rank

Luis BatlleOct 23, 2011

On Saturday, down went No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 6 Wisconsin. Not to mention, No. 5 Boise State, who still was able to continue their undefeated season, won in what was one of their shakiest performances of the season.

As there have been some big losses taking place inside the top six teams in college football, now, inevitably, comes the talks regarding which teams are the ones worthy of making the jump up in the ranks.

The Clemson Tigers are one of those teams that seems to be Top Five ready, as they have proven that they can beat down the teams they should pull out the win against. They have also been victorious against all three Top 25 teams they've faced this year.

Here are the Clemson Tigers and the three teams worthy of a Top Five ranking.

No. 3: Clemson Tigers (8-0, 5-0 ACC)

With the exception of a 56-45 nail-biter in College Park, MD, there has been no team on their schedule that has given the No. 7 Clemson Tigers much of a threat.

This past weekend, the team would steamroll over the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Week 8 matchup, as the Tigers put up a season-high 59 points in the 59-38 victory.

Victories over Virginia Tech, Florida State and Auburn are three solid Top 25 victories that merit a Top 5 spot in the BCS rankings after a Sooners loss and poor performance from Boise State against Air Force.

No. 2: Arkansas Razorbacks (6-1, 2-1 SEC)

The No. 9 passing offense in all of college football is led by quarterback Tyler Wilson.

Wins over No. 14 Texas A&M and No.15 Auburn two weeks ago certainly warrant an argument that the No. 9 team in the nation is worthy of a Top Five spot.

In their most recent outing, the team just edged out a tough Ole Miss team on the road, 29-24.

No. 1: Stanford Cardinals (7-0, 5-0 Pac-12)

Andrew Luck, the nation's top quarterback, has helped lead his Stanford team to a BCS title-worthy run this season as the Cardinals are undefeated through Week 8 of the season.

The No. 2 offense and No. 4 defense in the nation is easily one of the more underrated teams in all of college football. Granted they have played against just one Top 25 team, but it remains almost certain that this team's dominant play on both merits them being acknowledged as a Top Five team.

In the win over Washington in Week 8, Stanford put Washington to shame, scoring a whopping 65 points in their 65-21 crushing blow.

Luck threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the win, as he now has recorded over 2,000 yards on the season. The Cardinals are without question worthy of a Top Five bid, as a No. 8 current rank incorrectly reflects just how good this team is.
