BCS Rankings: Path Clearing for Boise State to Get into Title Game
Boise State's quest to play for the national championship received a huge boost on Saturday. They are still going to need some help, but that possibility is now much more likely.
What Helped Them in Week 8
Upsets to Oklahoma and Wisconsin were just what Boise State needed in Week 8. While Wisconsin was ranked behind them, it was likely that they would have passed Boise State had they both won out.
What They Need to Happen
Obviously, Boise State needs to win out, but that won't be enough. They will definitely need two of the next three out of LSU, Alabama and/or Oklahoma State to lose. But even that may not be enough.
If either Clemson or Stanford wins out, they will undoubtedly pass Boise State.
What Could Help them Going Forward
LSU and Alabama both can't go undefeated. It is likely that one of them will. They play each other in a couple of weeks. Both have a another game with a ranked opponent and the SEC championship game after that, but they will be heavily favored in those contests.
Oklahoma has a a big season-ending showdown with Oklahoma. They will host that game.
Stanford has a big matchup with Oregon looming, and if they survive that, they will have the Pac-12 championship game to contend with.
Boise State's Remaining Schedule
Boise State has two road games remaining against UNLV and San Diego State.
They will host TCU, Wyoming and New Mexico.
Conclusion
Boise State will be favored comfortably in all of their games. With the way they are playing, I expect them to go undefeated. I think the biggest obstacle for them is to avoid having Clemson and the winner of the Alabama vs. LSU game finish the season No. 1 and 2.
While they still need help, they need a lot less now.
