BCS Standings: Georgia Tech and 3 Teams Who Don't Deserve a BCS Bowl Bid

Luis BatlleOct 23, 2011

Despite the current BCS rankings and the teams that currently find themselves inside the top-25, there is no question that some of these teams are not worthy of a BCS bowl game bid.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are one of these teams, as they now stand at 6-2 after two consecutive losses on the road.

These are the Yellow Jackets and the three teams that are not deserving of a BCS bowl bid:

No. 3: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-2, 3-2 ACC)

The Yellow Jackets are now likely to be on the outside looking in as far as the top-25 goes, as they are losers of their last two games.

What makes matters worse, the team lost to Virginia, a team that has just one conference win, and were clobbered at Miami against the Hurricanes.

A team that once found themselves among the top-15 teams in the nation is surely a team that lacks the consistency and dominance to play in a BCS bowl game.

No. 2: Penn State Nittany Lions (7-1, 4-0 Big Ten)

Although they currently sit atop the conference, the Nittany Lions are a team that appear much stronger on paper than they may actually be.

Outside of a 23-18 win over Purdue at home, the Nittany Lions are yet to have any sort of success against a highly ranked opponent. Against a No. 3 Alabama early this season, Penn State was unable to get anything going and looked out of sync most of the game. The team had three turnovers in the game and just 144 yards through the air from quarterback Rob Bolden.

A solid team most certainly, yet BCS bowl bound? Not a chance.

No. 1: Virginia Tech Hokies (7-1, 3-1 ACC)

There is no question that there is talent brewing in Virginia, yet the bottom line is this team is not "for real."

The Hokies are yet to play any quality opponent with much success. In their one matchup against Clemson to open up the month of October, the Hokies put up just three points in the 23-3 loss.

Despite their No. 11 rankings and likely higher ranking after the Week 9 polls are released, this is certainly a team that lacks the depth of the teams ahead of them.

Oregon is just two spots ahead of these guys? Really?

They may be No. 11, yet that ranking is arguably quite deceiving.
