College Football Recruiting: Star Recruits Who Will Be Buried on Depth Charts

Edwin WeathersbyOct 23, 2011

We see it happen all the time. Years down the road, we're left wondering what happened to a star recruit who signed with a big-time school.

This year is no different.

I'm going to give you a couple recruits whom I think may be heading into a potential depth chart black hole.

Here we go.

3. Trevor Knight, QB

1 of 3

I like Knight, as he's a skinny QB with a quick release. He was initially headed to Texas A&M, but switched over to commit to Oklahoma.

With Landry Jones gone after this year to the NFL, Oklahoma will be looking for a new starting QB. Knight will have his eye on the job for sure.

But so will Blake Bell, Kendal Thompson and Drew Allen. Bell was a super recruit out of high school and Thompson wasn't far behind. Knight could get trapped on the depth chart.

2. Darreus Rogers, WR

2 of 3

At 6'2", 195 pounds and with good speed, Rogers is a great WR prospect from Los Angeles. He's headed to USC, so we think, but Miami, Arizona State, SMU and Hawaii are also recruiting him.

There may be a very good reason as to why Rogers will trip to those schools: Marqise Lee, George Farmer, Kyle Prater and Victor Blackwell.

All of them are young WRs at USC who all have fantastic skill sets. Rogers may not be able to beat them out until they graduate and leave for the NFL.

1. Zeke Pike, QB

3 of 3

Pike is a 6'6", 225-pound QB who can sling it with the best of 'em. He received offers from just about everyone, but pledged to Auburn in a bit of a surprise.

With Clint Mosely and Kiehl Frazier looking like potential starters down the line and already knowing the Auburn offense better than Pike, this may not be an ideal situation for him.

Pike's confident, and I can really see him starting at Auburn one day, but that could just be my imagination, as Frazier and Mosely will have a lot to say about that.
