BCS Standings 2011: Kansas State and More Teams To Crack Top 10

Brian LendinoOct 23, 2011

Boy, Week 8 in college football was one for the ages.

We saw two top 10 teams fall while others like LSU and Clemson looked absolutely dominant.

Fresh off the new release of the AP Top 25 and USA Today Poll we have sort of a rough basis to predict who's in and who's out of the second edition of the BCS standings.

Kansas State Wildcats

Hot off their in-state trouncing of Kansas 59-21 the Wildcats now sit at 7-0.

Not many people recognize how truly good this team is because they don't get much national coverage but I'm here to say that it's time they get some.

On the season they've traveled to Miami and won, beat conference opponents Missouri and Baylor and went to Texas Tech and beat a Red Raiders team who's beaten Oklahoma.

They control tempo and protect the football.

We'll see their true colors next week against Oklahoma.

Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State would need the biggest jump to vault into the Top 10. It surely is possible.

They're No. 9 in the new AP Top 25 so a vault to No. 10 in the BCS wouldn't be entirely surprising.

The Spartans and the Badgers gave us an instant classic last night, and the Spartans will surely reap the benefits of that.

It's an outside shot they snag the 10th spot because of how far they would have to jump, but if they did it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech was No. 12 in the opening edition of the BCS standings despite being No. 16 in the AP Poll.

This week, the Hokies draw the No. 15 spot in the AP Poll after beating the Boston College Eagles 30-14.

Virginia Tech didn't impress all that much beating a hapless BC team, but fortunately the computers don't have eyes.

Tech will move up simply because of winning the game and with Wisconsin and Oklahoma losing they could very well find themselves on the cusp of the Top 10.
