BCS Projections: Clemson and Teams Who Could Move into Top 5

Nicholas GossOct 23, 2011

With the Wisconsin Badgers and Oklahoma Sooners losing this weekend, there will be some movement in the BCS rankings when the season's second edition is unveiled Sunday.

LSU and Alabama will have the Top Two spots secured for sure, but spots 3-5 are up for grabs, especially No. 4 and 5.

Let's look at some teams who could possibly move into the Top Five of the BCS standings.

1) Clemson

The Tigers are now 8-0 after their big win against North Carolina on Saturday, and have scored 50-plus points in two straight games.

Clemson is playing very well right now, and have one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

Coming into the week, Clemson was seventh in the BCS standings, and will surely jump Wisconsin and Oklahoma, probably, as well.

The Tigers leaped the Badgers and Sooners in the new AP poll, No. 6 in in the country. Clemson has played tougher opponents than both No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 Boise State, so the Tigers should be ahead of those schools in the new BCS rankings.

2) Stanford

Stanford should be in the Top Five of the new BCS standings after being ranked No. 8 in the first BCS poll last week.

The Cardinal beat a very good Washington Huskies team comfortably on Saturday, and are now 7-0 overall, 5-0 in the Pac-12.

Stanford has one of the best offenses in the country, led by top NFL prospect Andrew Luck. They are not only a better team than Boise State, they have played a tougher schedule.

The Cardinal were disrespected in the first BCS rankings, but they have no reason to be this time around.

3) Oregon

Oregon began the season in the Top Five in the AP poll, but after an opening week loss to current No. 1 LSU, the Ducks fell quite a bit down the polls.

The Ducks loss to LSU was a bit fluky, and Oregon committed some bad turnovers and were terribly unlucky.

People seem to forget how good they are, and how amazing their offense is. Oregon is averaging 48.1 points per game this season, which is the fourth best in the nation. Their rushing attack is also fourth in the country, averaging 323 yards per game.

Oregon is 6-1 this season and their only loss was to the top-ranked team in America; they are fully deserving of being No. 5 in the second BCS rankings.
