BCS Rankings: Oklahoma and the Biggest Losers Heading into Week 9

Mick AkersOct 23, 2011

After a Week 8 filled with wild finishes and upset victories, the BCS landscape is sure to change in the Week 9 BCS Rankings.

Here are the biggest losers heading into Week 9 of the college football slate.

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Sooners were the preseason No. 1 pick and most analysts gave them a good shot at making the BCS championship game.

Texas Tech had upset on their minds entering the game, and put the plan into action, knocking off No. 3 ranked Sooners, ending their 39-game home winning streak and in turn snatching any hope of a BCS title in the process.

The Sooners may have been caught focusing on upcoming games against Kansas State and their year-end battle with in-state rival Oklahoma State, and didn't give their full attention to the Texas Tech game until they found themselves down 24-7 at the half.

Boise State

Even though the Boise State Broncos came away with a win on Saturday against Air Force, the amount they won by will surely not play in their favor when the new polls are released.

Boise State beat Air Force 37-26, and though an 11-point victory sounds good to the average fan, the voters and the computers that make up the BCS voting scheme will not find it a favorable win, and it could cost Boise State at least a one-spot drop.

That would be a big deal for a team that has never been given the respect that they deserve and are always fighting week-to-week trying to get to a BCS championship game, which looks like a long shot again this season for Boise State, even if they go undefeated.

Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Badgers showed they had heart, mounting an exciting 14-point fourth quarter comeback against the Michigan State Spartans.

Then the miracle happened.

Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins launched a 44-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass with time expiring to take down Wisconsin and their BCS title hopes.

Although Wisconsin showed they had the heart of a champion, a miracle play like the Hail Mary bomb that beat them is something that will suck the life out of any team on the opposing side, and that's just what it did Saturday night.
