BCS Standings: Auburn and 4 Teams That Will Drop from the Top 25
Week 8 of the college football season brought us a remarkable weekend of games.I was pleasantly surprised, because I didn't think that there was a great docket of games.
Week 8 was also our first chance to see how accurate the initial BCS rankings were.
With one ranked game under the belt, it's safe to slide and slot teams to more accurate positions.
Here's four teams who didn't prove that they were worthy of a coveted BCS ranking.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Just two short weeks ago, Ron Zook's Fighting Illini were one of college football's only remaining unbeaten teams.
Since then, they've dropped two straight and are inevitably on their way out of the Top 25.
Most questioned the Illinis' resume despite a 6-0 record, and now those questions are coming to fruition.
The Illini are not all that good, and their lack of a Week 9 ranking just reiterates that.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets tell the same exact story as Illinois—they've gone from 6-0 to 6-2 in just two short weeks.
They live and die by the run game and lately it's been nothing but death for Paul Johnson's offense.
This past week, they were outmatched by a talented Miami squad.
While this team may still have a shot to make noise this season, at 6-2, following two straight defeats, they're surely out of the rankings.
Auburn Tigers
I personally questioned the Auburn Tigers selection to be placed at No. 20 in the opening rankings.
Then I realized that computers don't have eyes and haven't seen Barrett Trotter play football.
After getting mopped up by LSU, I'm certain the blind-eyed computers will get this one right.
Auburn looked helpless against the shorthanded Tigers, losing 45-10.
At 5-3, the Auburn Tigers are ready to be bounced from the ranks.
Washington Huskies
This one goes without saying. If you're ranked at the bottom (25), and you lose, you're going to drop out.
The Huskies have a very good quarterback, Stanford just had a better one.
I like this Huskies squad, but this loss will set them back a bit.
