Alabama Football: Did Tommy Tuberville Give a Gift to an Old Foe Alabama?
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Tommy Tuberville has been pretty much an afterthought since leaving Auburn and going to Lubbock, Texas and Texas Tech. If he's made any of his usual "Tuberville Quotes," these missed the press back east.
But Tuberville did something last night that sent shock waves not only back to Alabama, but across the country, by guiding his Texas Tech Red Raiders to an impressive 41-38 win over the No. 3 team in the land, the Oklahoma Sooners.
This likely sunk Oklahoma's chances of facing the eventual SEC champion and could have removed the team that would have been their biggest and most daunting test.
So, if either Alabama or LSU walk out of the BCS game in New Orleans with another national championship, will Tuberville's fingerprints be somewhere on that statue?
They very well could.
And that could result in Alabama fans doing something they have never considered before—thanking Tuberville for a job well done.
Although Tuberville is having a good season at Texas Tech, no one outside the most fervent Red Raider fan base thought a win like this was in the cards against the No. 3 team. Especially not after losing to No. 24 Texas A&M and and No. 17 Kansas State.
But you can be certain that No. 24 Texas and No. 4 Oklahoma State will certainly look a little harder at Tuberville's Red Raiders now.
Could Tuberville have won over some Crimson Tide and LSU Tiger fans for the rest of the season to help root him through these games?
Like Tuberville himself, I wouldn't bet against it.
