Huskies vs. Cardinal: 4 Halftime Adjustments the Huskies Need to Make
In a high-octane battle of two of the Pac-12’s best, the Cardinal is leading the Huskies 38-14 heading into the half. While Keith Price and company have held their own against one of the nation's top teams, there are a few things they need to work on if they want to get back into the game.
1. Limit another fast start
Stanford exploded out of the gates, charging downfield for a touchdown in only six plays. If the Huskies can draw first blood in the second half, they will get a huge momentum boost and bring the Cardinal crowd down a notch.
2. Give Price more time
You can’t expect the Huskies to match Stanford’s offense if their star quarterback has mere seconds to get rid of the ball after every snap. The offensive line is starting to pick it up, but you can tell Keith Price is a little out of sync, missing his targets when rushed. With a little more time to make decisions, Price will have more success airing it out, taking advantage of a Cardinal secondary that’s missing its best player.
3. Make Luck scramble
While Keith Price has been rushed or hurried almost every other play, Andrew Luck is getting plenty of time on almost every snap to find one of his many capable targets. If the Huskies want to break his poise and cause some turnovers, they have to put on the pressure.
4. Limit the big plays
Through the air and on the ground, the Cardinal has had big play after big play. Even their little-known reserve running back has gotten in the mix. While the Cardinal’s quick and effective drives keep the Dawg D well rested, it has to hurt Washington's morale to see Andrew Luck and the Stanford offense almost effortlessly dissect its defense.
