Manchester United vs. Manchester City: Derby Will Showcase Top Attacks in EPL
If offensive football is your fancy, then be sure to tune in to the Manchester derby on Sunday, when Manchester United and Manchester City meet at Old Trafford to plague each others' defenses and sort out the top of the table in the English Premier League.
Both clubs sport sensational attacks boosted by a glut of world-class talent. The Red Devils have more amazing forwards than Sir Alex Ferguson can shake a stick at, led by Wayne Rooney, the top goal scorer in the EPL this season. He's been joined up front this season by the rotating trio of Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov, each of whom is good enough to be the top striker on just about any team at the highest level of English football.

And that's to say nothing of United's wing talent. New boy Ashley Young has been a revelation since arriving at Old Trafford from Aston Villa, though, even his play this season pales in comparison to that of Nani. The Portuguese international has arguably been one of the best players in the EPL in the early portion of the 2011-12 season, notching three goals and three assists while helping Man U's attack to run like a well-oiled machine.
As for City, well, they're no slouches when it comes to putting the ball in the net, either. In fact, they may even have the best attack that (Sheik Mansour's) money can buy. Sergio Aguero has been sensational in his first season at Etihad, putting through eight goals and two assists while playing alongside Edin Dzeko (six goals), Mario Balotelli (three goals) and David Silva (two goals, five assists). Samir Nasri, the one-time talisman for Arsenal, has seemingly regained his form under Roberto Mancini's guidance, posting a league-leading six assists thus far.
Perhaps what's most remarkable about the Citizens' success so far is that they've managed to be so prolific on the pitch amidst the protestations of Carlos Tevez. The Argentine striker and former Man U star has been a one-man storm of controversy this season. He's made every attempt to have himself extradited from the team, from demanding a transfer to refusing to enter a match at Mancini's behest.
The fact that Tevez has contributed so little to City this season is a testament to just how deep and imposing their offense really is.
Whether Man City's "new money" can trump Man U's "old money" remains to be seen. These two sides met in the 2011 FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium back in August in what turned out to be an instant classic. City took a commanding 2-0 lead into the dressing room at halftime, courtesy of goals by Dzeko and Joleon Lescott. That advantage only served to heighten the drama, as the Red Devils stormed to victory with three second-half goals—two for Nani and one for Chris Smalling.
This latest edition of the Manchester derby will be hard-pressed to live up to that one as far as sheer excitement and intrigue are concerned, though, fans can expect a rousing display of attacking football in what may well be the most highly-anticipated match of the season.
