Auburn vs. LSU: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Tigers Must Make
We are in for a great second half today as the No. 1 LSU Tigers take on No. 20 Auburn in Baton Rouge. LSU is looking to go 8-0 for the first time since 1973 and prove that their tenacious defense can survive without their biggest star, Tyrann Mathieu.
Here are five halftime adjustments LSU needs to make if they want to leave Tiger Stadium undefeated.
Continue to Bring Pressure
The Tigers have done a great job of bringing the heat in the first half. Auburn's QBs do not have a lot of experience and have been extremely hindered by LSU's speedy rush off of the edges. The Tigers need to continue to dial up the pressure and force Auburn's young QBs into mistakes.
Rueben Randle DEEP
With RB Spencer Ware sitting out of today's game, LSU's receivers needed to step up.
Randle has done exactly that.
In the second half the Tigers need to continue to look for Randle deep as he is having his way with Auburn's CBs.
Try Play-Action
The Tigers should consider running play-action in the second half. LSU has done a decent job of dividing Ware's running load between three backs, which has set up the opportunity for big play-actions plays in the second half. Look for Lee to unload a huge throw off a play-fake in the final two quarters.
Consider More Jordan Jefferson
The Tigers should consider getting Jefferson more snaps in the second half. Jefferson has already delivered a sweet TD throw in the first half and LSU should try to get him more chances to make plays with the option or bootleg.
Third Down Offense
LSU needs to step up their third down offense in the second half. The Tigers were not able to convert on a number of manageable third downs in the first two quarters and if LSU wants to break out in the second half, they need to convert on third and short.
