Auburn vs. LSU: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Tigers Must Make

Nick YokoyamaOct 22, 2011

We are in for a great second half today as the No. 20 Auburn Tigers take on No. 1 LSU in Baton Rouge. Auburn is looking to upset the top-ranked team in the nation, which is without three key players due to violations of the team's drug policy.

Here are five halftime adjustments Auburn needs to make if it wants to leave Tiger Stadium with a huge upset.

Protection on the Edges

In the first quarter alone, Clint Moseley was sacked a total of three times. In the final half, Auburn needs to bring more protection over to help its QBs withstand LSU's speedy edge rush.

LSU's linemen are relentless and the Tigers QBs need to work on maintaining a rhythm and getting the ball out as quickly as possible.

Stop the Stupid Penalties

Auburn needs to stop its stupid penalties in the second half. On LSU's first two scoring possessions, the Tigers committed a number of crucial penalties which kept LSU's drives alive. Auburn must clean up its act in the second half if it wants any chance of taking down the No. 1 team in the nation.

Michael Dyer Downhill

The Tigers need to get Michael Dyer more touches in the second half. With an inexperienced Moseley at the helm, Auburn must give their best offensive weapon more chances to make plays. If Dyer is able to break off a couple big gains, Moseley will have more opportunities and time to make throws.

LBs Fight Through Blocks/Wrap Up

Auburn's LBs need to perform in the second half.

In order for the Tigers to stop LSU's power run game their LBs must fight through the blocks of LSU's D. Auburn received a huge boost for this game with the suspension of RB Spencer Ware, but the Tigers still need to step up in the second half by wrapping up and fighting through blocks.

Onterio McCalebb in Space

McCalebb is lightning fast.

The Tigers need to continue to get him the ball with room to execute by either running sweeps or quick screens. There's no doubt that the Tigers remember McCalebb burning LSU last year, so look for him to break out a huge play in the second half.
