Wisconsin vs. Michigan State: 5 Badgers You Should Know Besides Russell Wilson

Sean LansingOct 22, 2011

As good as Russell Wilson has been, it takes more than just one player for a team to start 6-0 with the nation's top scoring offense and third-ranked scoring defense.

If the Badgers are going to beat the Spartans in East Lansing tonight, they are going to need production from more than just their quarterback.

Here are five Badgers not named Russell Wilson that you should know about.

Montee Ball

1 of 5

The Badgers are averaging more than 50 points a game on offense because of Russell Wilson AND Montee Ball.

Wisconsin's junior tailback is averaging more than 100 yards a game on the ground, and he's second in the nation with 16 rushing touchdowns.

Last week, Ball even added a throwing TD to his stat line when he hooked up with Wilson for a score against Indiana.

Jared Abbrederis

2 of 5

As a former walk-on, sophomore wide receiver Jared Abbrederis has already exceeded expectations in Madison.

Abbrederis has emerged as one of Russell Wilson's favorite targets with 24 catches for 391 yards and two scores, and he has a punt return for a TD.

Most importantly, he's drawn enough attention from opposing defenses to open things up for Wisconsin's number one receiver Nick Toon.

Jacob Pedersen

The key to Nick Toon's breakout season might be Jared Abbrederis, but neither would be successful if it wasn't for Jacob Pedersen.

Wisconsin's tight end has 17 catches for 239 yards, and he already has five TDs.

Pedersen is the latest in a long line of stars that have earned Wisconsin the moniker "Tight End U."

Chris Borland

4 of 5

Chris Borland burst onto the scene as a freshman before he was slowed down by a slew of injuries.

The Wisconsin defensive end/linebacker is healthy again and he anchors one of the nation's top defenses with fellow LB Mike Taylor.

In six games, Borland has 58 tackles (8.5 for a loss), with an interception and half a sack.

Mike Taylor

Mike Taylor and Chris Borland make up one of the nation's top linebacking duos.

Taylor has 57 tackles (4.5 for a loss), an interception and a sack.

Because of these two, Wisconsin has a two-headed monster on offense (Wilson-Ball) and defense.
