Anthony Conner Injury: Louisville CB Suffers Broken Neck During Tragic Hit

Matt FaulconerOct 22, 2011

Tragedy struck the Louisville Cardinals football team last night in one of the worst ways possible.

Louisville CB Anthony Conner broke his neck on Friday night in a game against Rutgers while making a tackle on WR Mohamed Sanu.

It was quite an ugly scene, as you could see his body go limp as soon as his head made contact with Sanu's knee.

He laid on the ground motionless for a couple of minutes before the medical staff took him to an ambulance Conner was able to talk, had feeling in his extremities while on the field and was able to raise his hand as he departed.

Louisville head coach Charlie Strong confirmed after the game that Conner's neck was broken.

"

Anthony Conner, it's so sad. Our prayers go out to him and his family, but he ended up breaking his neck.

It's just so tough anytime you lose a player. It's what happens in this game, but you just never think it'll happen to one of your own. For that to happen, it is, it's sad. I think our players, I told them right after the game. I ended up telling them about it, and some of them didn't take it very well. The whole team didn't take it very well.

"

Anytime something like this happens, it's a tragedy. It had to be especially tough for the Rutgers players who went through the same anguish last year. Former DL Eric LeGrand fractured two vertebrae last year in a game against Army.

Hopefully, Conner is able to completely heal from this, but a broken neck is one of the worst injuries you will see in the game of football.
