BCS Rankings: Why Complete Clemson Will Continue to Catapult Up the Rankings

Everybody loves a team that crushes the BCS system and this year’s winner is the No. 7 ranked Clemson Tigers.

The class of the ACC has already registered wins over three ranked schools  (Auburn, Florida St, Virginia Tech) because they beat you on both sides of the ball.

The 38 points they average per game is good enough for 21^st in the nation and the majority of the credit must go to sophomore QB Tajh Boyd. His numbers have been nothing shot of incredible, passing for 2012 yards, 19 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Tack on another three rushing TDs and this guy is close to unstoppable.

Boyd is a potentially Heisman candidate that will only miss out on the award because of his young age…this is a top five player in the country.

But he’s not the only reason the Tigers are so good.

Freshman receiver Sammy Watkins may only be 6-1 and 180-pounds, but he has the sort of blazing fast speed not seen around Death Valley in a long time. He has 46 receptions for 728 yards and eight touchdowns, and provides Boyd with the sort of mismatch every defense to date hasn’t been able to figure out.

On top of that they have a bulky, yet elusive runner in Andre Ellington that has racked up 740 rushing yards and seven TDs. He can run through the tackles, catch the ball out of the backfield (11 receptions) and is an elite blocker.

Add it up and the Clemson offense matches up against any team in the country.

The defense isn’t as good, allowing 23 points a game, but they seem to always get the big stop when it matters most in the fourth quarter. They have tons of size upfront and can smoother an oppositions running game.

With games against upstart No. 22 Georgia Tech and disappointing No. 14 South Carolina the only remaining tests…the Tigers have what it takes to finish this season perfect.

Considering Wisconsin, Stanford and Boise State can all make the same claim…it’s going to get messy in December as the BCS computers fry trying to compute all of the illustrious teams in college football this season.

Clemson may not be the best team in the nation…but they have just as good of a shot to go undefeated as any other team in the nation.
