BCS Standings 2011: BCS Powerhouses Safe from Upset in Week 8
If you happen to support one of the BCS powerhouses in the top 5, you can wipe the sweat from your brow. This weekend will pass with all of them reaching safety with a win.
This is a rare weekend when the college football gods deemed the shakeups, upsets and shocking results would happen below the top 5, because things look fairly tame on the elite front at the time being.
Sure, there are a couple teams that look a little dangerous before Saturday. But the sharks circling the water will be exposed as guppies soon enough.
We have become so used to seeing powers stumble that we can't believe that so many would remain unbeaten by this mark in the season. Well, the top 5 will do just that.
1. LSU: Let's get the toughest game out of the way right away. Auburn poses one of the more difficult challenges LSU will face this season.
When you consider Auburn's emergence on the defensive end and LSU's losses to suspension, you would be right in thinking upset alert.
This alert will fail to bring anything scary for LSU fans thought. The Tigers are deep, and Auburn will struggle to score on a very tough defense.
2. Alabama: Their job is easy. Just get past the Tennessee Volunteers to take on the big fish. The Vols have a solid team, just not one that comes equipped to dance with Alabama.
This may be the best defense in the nation, and the Volunteers don't have the arsenal to get past it.
3. Oklahoma: Texas Tech will do enough to make this game interesting, but that's about it. Landry Jones will have a big game in what should be a shoot out. An exciting watch will have Ryan Broyles come down with a few pivotal catches for huge yardage.
4. Oklahoma State: I am enamored with what Brandon Weeden should be able to do on Saturday. The Cowboys will go vertical in what should be at least a three-touchdown day for Oklahoma State's star quarterback.
5. Boise State: The Broncos may gripe about forever being in the middle of the top 10, but they are not about to relinquish the spot to a soft defense like air Force.
The Broncos will get practice stopping the run on Saturday, but they will hardly be in danger after putting a gaudy number on the board.
