BCS Standings 2011: 4 Teams That Will Go Undefeated This Season
The first BCS Rankings are out and most college football fans love to discuss them. So, which teams will run the table?
A few BCS teams do it every season and they are the same teams that end up playing for it all. However, will we have two teams from the power six to run their gauntlet of a schedule?
Alabama and LSU are heavyweight contenders, but even my neighbors know they play each other and that a winner will be declared on Nov. 5.
Will the Big Ten have an undefeated team? What about the Big 12?
Perhaps Clemson or Stanford runs the table in the Pac-12? What about those Boise State Broncos?
Houston Cougars
1 of 4Surprise!
Let's start with these Houston Cougars out of Conference-USA. Their schedule is brutal with Marshall (65), Rice (85), UAB (119), Tulane (109), SMU (29) and Tulsa (48) all left on the schedule.
Their offense is loaded and Case Keenum needs just 1,178 more yards to break Hawaii's Timmy Chang (17,072) for the all-time FBS record in career passing yards.
Keenum also needs 11 more passing touchdowns to hold the all-time FBS record held by former Texas Tech and current Green Bay backup Graham Harrell (134).
They will likely play in the C-USA Championship, but can I get a check mark next to their team for an undefeated season?
Alabama Crimson Tide
2 of 4Way to pick the home team, right?
I have nothing against LSU and truly believe they are among the three best teams in America at the moment, but will their offense be able to grind it on the ground against the best group of linebackers in college football?
Plus, Trent Richardson is the toughest player in America to tackle, whether it is in the open field or if he is running right through you.
A few more monster games in November and early December and the Tide may be on their way to another BCS National Championship.
Boise State Broncos
3 of 4Call me crazy, but I truly do not believe the Big Ten, Pac-12 or Big 12 will have an undefeated season. The Sooners have the best chance of proving me wrong, but we shall see about that.
The Badgers and Cardinal still have too many weak links for me to declare them as undefeated teams. Don't get me wrong, they are very good teams, but I really doubt their defenses will be able to keep up the stellar play.
Boise State, on the other hand, is a legit team that prides itself on defense. They refuse to allow yards and bottle up and suffocate running backs.
It helps to have Kellen Moore putting up 50 burgers every weekend on the Mountain West, but Chris Petersen's defense gives this team an outside shot at appearing not only in a BCS Bowl but in the BCS National Championship as well.
Clemson Tigers
4 of 4Last but certainly not least, let's talk about those Clemson Tigers. Their schedule is nearly cupcake city with they way they have been playing.
Keep in mind they must knock off South Carolina on the road, which will be tough, but without Marcus Lattimore how many points can they honestly score?
Plus, the Clemson defense is loaded with stars and they showed it against Virginia Tech. They better be ready for them again, as they will likely have a rematch with Frank Beamer's squad that could possibly determine their BCS National Championship aspirations.
The biggest question remaining is whether or not they would jump an undefeated Boise State team on top of several one loss teams from the Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-12.
